If it is the Pens intention to not send them back to juniors, then this is the way to do it: make sure that there is a specific plan in place that takes advantage of the direct oversight of the players and the training staff and facility that they will have available to them. Just accept that they aren't going to play all 82 games and make that part of the plan.
This is smart planning. They aren’t being sent back and this is the path to allow growth and development in their careers and will benefit them both immensely as the season progresses.
Yeah idk about pulling them in and out when they will play better than the replacement. Its not like we desperately need dumba, or accari and idk if i like the idea of guys with 0 games played jumping in game 8 lol
Idk how I feel about scratching both kindel and Brunicke. I get the whole developmental thing. The blue jackets aren’t great, it’s an event night so why are our young guns not sitting front row for that. Also it’s a Saturday so the crowd will he better, the city is hyped about these young players. If I was going tonight I’d be super disappointed one of them aren’t in.
Sounds like I’m hating but I actually love what HCDM has done and handled both Kindel and Brunicke up to this point.
If Pens are sending either (or both) down to Wilkes-Barre, this extends their stay with the big club. Had they both played tonight, Brunicke could've played another 2 games at the NHL level before his ELC starts; Kindel just 1 more game. Since they're both scratched, that's 3 games and 2 games respectively, kicking the can down the road. They'll be practicing with the big guys and have access to (much) better facilities than are available in the WHL. There is a benefit here. If the Pens are not sending them down, this is still a sound idea. They can play 50-60 games this season and not wear down, work with staff in Pittsburgh on their game. Neither of them was ever going to get 70+ games and that's fine; they're teenagers. For Brunicke, his defensive partner is out for a couple of months, that might have something to do with it for tonight too.
