POSTCAST: The Montreal Screwjob & the TRUTH about Pettersson and Kane | Canucks Lose To Canadiens

The Canadiens erased an early two-goal deficit to defeat the Canucks 4–3 at Rogers Arena.

Ivan Demidov led Montreal with a goal and two assists.

Nick Suzuki extended his point streak to nine games with a power-play goal.

For Vancouver, Elias Pettersson recorded a goal and two assists, while Conor Garland added a goal + assist.

Montreal’s comeback really took off in the third period, with goals from Juraj Slafkovsky, Mike Matheson and Demidov sealing the win.

🔍 Key Takeaways

Vancouver jumped out to a strong start (2-0 lead) but couldn’t sustain it. The Canadiens methodically turned the tide in the final period.

Defensively, the Canucks had moments of success but allowed Montreal to dictate the pace late—especially with special teams being decisive.
Offensively, though Pettersson and Garland produced, Vancouver lacked consistency across lines when the pressure mounted.

Montreal’s Kyle step-up from their younger players (e.g., Demidov) was a reminder that depth and momentum matter in one-goal games.

🎯 What This Means For Vancouver
The Canucks have now lost three straight games. They can’t afford to drop momentum so early.

They need to dig into what allowed the third-period collapse—whether it’s shift management, defensive communication, or fatigue.

They showed flashes of structure and skill, but continuity and closing ability are still lacking.
Pettersson’s multi-point night is a positive sign, but he—and the team—must build on it, not rest on it.

  1. I really was rooting for the Canucks on this one. I needed the Canadiens to lose to further the Red Wings making it further into the standings of the Atlantic Division. I’m happy Petey scored 3 points however.

  2. Canucks Power Play coach resign , step down let the players draw something up .Two man advantage and nothing .Two weeks from now with players returning maybe a trade or players picking up play Canucks will improve

  3. Probably cope but I wasn't nearly as dissappinted this time. Could've easily gone either way. I'd rather they play this style of hockey that actually gets special teams goals and creates chaos in front of the net than the snooze fest in Nashville. Also maybe stop playing Lankinen every other game and instead every third game. These aren't soft goals but you need to be saving some of them.

  4. The canucks played sort of well. They didn't get schooled so much, as lankinen was channelling a bit of skinner.

  5. Kyle, you might not be doing any finger pointing, but I am. (Lankinen, you need to step it up. With the canuck forward injuries, etc, you need to pull a demko).

  6. 2-0 Canucks , Laniken has to make some saves . Give Thatcher Demko that lead , Canucks get a win or at least a point

  7. Before the trade i was laughing at the oilers cause they were stuck with this awful contract and in swoops vancouver and doesnt even get salary retained..smh

  8. Vancouver played well. First line is great. Canucks controlled the play in much of the game. 3 goals against Dobes who is playing hot says something.

  9. The more it goes… the more demidov will be dangerous!!! Dont get penalities vs montreal… dont go 3v3 its your death!

  10. Point of order, Kane and Petterson?…Ivan Demidov was the BEST player on the ice that game. He made Petterson look like an oaf who couldn't even hold a stick. Oh wait, he didn't just look like that. It actually happened. O_o
