Bouchard was not great in the playoffs. He literally cost the Oilers the Cup last season with his crap defensive plays and turnovers. You replace Bouchard with any other top pair defenseman and the Oilers probably win the Cup the past two seasons.
They are changing his number to -4 in honor of game 6 in the finals

Seems like a $10.5M-a-year, zero-D Bouchard is playing for the other team yet again this season. Keeping him is a huge mistake. No passion, no defensive effort at all, no excuses … he’s basically a $10.5M sixth skater for the opposition. He did exactly the same in the Finals, being the Panthers’ 6th man.
Quickly playing himself off Team Canada….which is a very good thing….there are at least two dozen guys better at a 200ft game….and way more responsible with the most important thing on the ice….the puck.
I am a Tactical Systems Analyst…Bouchard is a Generational talent…he doesnt need to follow convention or change for anyone… his offensive toolbox will do damage on any Team anywhere…the Oilers do not share intimate Systems data so nobody knows exactly what Bouchards expected duties are, same with Skinner and the rest of the hounds, because we do not know the System resposibilities of individual players and we do not know how well or not well Knoblauch is managing the System at all, we are just 2nd Tier mushrooms that keep bringing money to the party. If I were to give a Professional insight gratis….it would be that considering the System I know the Oilers use and considering how I know Knoblauch is trying to manage said System … Bouchard needs to be cut loose to score at will to create at will….he needs to lean MORE towards offense than away from it,lean into the wind dont let it push you back. Skinner will lead the NHL in Shutouts by the halfway mark…its ironic because hes now matured into what they needed 3 years ago but today the entire Team is 3 years removed and now they arent evolving upwardly as fast as he is, he has slingshotted his way back to the baseline of expectations somehow…everyones curve is different….in addition the same concept that applies to our inability to fairly or accurately judge Bouchards or anyone elses performance vs production due to a lack of data also applies to Skinner….soooo….unless you happen to be privy to the Oilers secret proprietary System information OR you just happen to be a Unicorn Tactical Systems Analyst …. you simply cannot go beyond the eye-test and cheesy pliable advanced stats BS…and again ironically the eye-test judgements people are making are ACCURATE just not valid in terms of being intimately insightful. System data can be a godsend to a team if kept secret and proprietary and it can be a death knell if leaked.
