Robert and Pinder respond to a viewer’s Super Chat after yet another Calgary Flames loss during our After Burner postgame show. The message reads: “Hot take… maybe Darryl wasn’t the problem after all.” 👀
The guys dive into whether there’s any truth to that — has it really been the same problems year after year, no matter who’s behind the bench? Is it time to start looking deeper at the organization itself?

Darryl was right, he wasn't the problem.. the players of today are soft.
Darryl was part of the problem, when you tell the media your star player left the ice to "take a shit", you are part of the problem. That leaves the realm of aww shucks country boy honesty, and makes you look like a classless goof. Not to mention throwing Hubie under the bus, as coach you are supposed to show leadership, instead he showed as much class as Sean Avery did back in the day.
Oh come on. Of course he wasn't the whole problem, and of course he was absolutely part of it. Sutter used the season to prove a point to the GM instead of doing his job. The GM was the problem, the coach was the problem, the players were the problem.
Sutter was always right, this group of guys don’t have it! They’re chicken shits
Of course he was the damn problem. Coaching in 2022 like it was 2002. These players don't put up with that crap. They. Do. Not. Sutter was toast. He made no adjustments. He made no attempt to use new players differently than he used previous players. He hated young players. He absolutely was THE problem his final year. Just utterly spent and done. Get out. Take your 8 million and your old man rails at clouds act. See ya.
He was terible on the ice. WTF are you talking about. They didn't practice the powerplay. They didn't practice the 3 on 3 OT. He was crap. Washed up. The one taking a dump that year was him. My god. Move the hell on.
Yuh cain t fire the whole team, so Darryl took the hit.
Poor kids. Working hard for a great paycheck. Hope they save this money for when the real workforce is waiting for them.
I said Sutter wasn't the problem from the very beginning. It was the soft attitude around and inside the locker room. Time to go old school, get rid of the swedes, bring in the hard rough neck western type. You know, people who get excited to put their work boots on, not pout
Guy got fired after coaching the Flames to a division title and the best ever seasons for Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Lindholm and Markstrom. Yet it's his fault because he was mean.
Pinder, you were the conductor of the fire Darryl train. But you are right, it was not all Darryls fault. Markstrom was terrible, the GM had his hands tied and the players have changed. They are now thin skined millionaire snowflakes and did not react to Darryls old school appraoch.
No dude. He's also probably the reason Adam Fox left
Bob Hartley, Bill Peters and Daryl Sutter have two things in common with each other. They were "Dinosaur" coaches and they gave the Flames their best seasons in recent history. If a team doesn't have a lot of talent then the only thing they can do is play tough, hard hockey. A lot of players today are simply sissies. Guys like Huberdeau come to mind.
Yea Sutter was right!
Reading these comments it's clear that we need a Daryl around here ,these fat soy and sugar filled fans are softer than flaming diarrhea, the scipt will never be written in a way that makes Calgary a winner, these fans eat pig slop and pay top dollar to defend it, so why would they script Calgary to be a contender when they can extract the same revenue for no effort?
The real problem with this group of degenerate player is that they're all greedy arrogant, soft snowflakes. If they were paid based on performance they would be broke, Darryl Sutter was right
It isn't his job to make them want them come to work. He called them out.
As a coach he is great. But part of coaching is man management and he is brutal at it. Are players softer today? Probably. But if they are, they are. His job as a coach is to get the best out of them. Great as he is and was, he couldn’t do that.
The Flames are bad because they dont have good players. Are people seriously this obtuse ? Sutter wasnt good. Johnny and Matthew were good. Remove two great players and add below average goaltending and people expect a playoff team ? Also Markstrom didnt chit the bed. Sutter overplayed him ( a huge sign he isnt a good coach ).
That 2022-23 flames team was dysfunctional, top to bottom.
Divas and he called them on it. Typical of today in general, lack of accountability.
Sutter was the problem, wrong coach at the wrong time!
Darryl was right all along. The problem was 7 guys on the team, Huberdeau, Kadri and the traitor 5 Swedes Lindholm, Markstrom, Andersson, Backlund, and Kylington conspired against Darryl. Once Tkachuk, Gaudreau, lucic, Toffoli, Lewis, who were all loyal to Darryl was gone, only Zadorov was the lone Darryl loyalist left and the evil 7 got their way and convinced ownership to fire Darryl. The end
The problem was the lockeroom got 2 cancers injected into team and that was Huberdeau and Kadri. They arrived and immediately started making trouble for Darryl and the locker room got divided. Funny how the team with Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Zadorov, Lucic, the LA guys Toffoli, Lewis all had no problems playing for Darryl but once the 2 cancers arrived, all of a sudden Darryl was the bad guy
I quit following the Flames closely after they ousted Darryl. He's one of the best ever.
STL City MLS team has the same issue. 2x coach of the year candidate, but City fires him. I think they've had four coaches in under three years. At some point, roster management and team structure has to be looked at.
Darryl is gone and the team is still bad. If anything we got worse
Sutter was a dick and a major reason why the team under-performed. Sutter's mindset doesn't work with the young generation of players. There is the right coach for teams and Sutter was good for teams filled with players from the 80s and 90s.
Starting to wonder? Sutter was right from the very beginning! Should have never gotten rid of him.
The players are soft in today’s age because Bettman changed the game so much so that the players can dangle their talent. Go back to letting some clutching, grabbing, leveling in front of the net, and most of all, get rid of this “third man in penalty” let the players protect their elite talent like it use to be. Hockey use to be a real man’s sport but today’s game, bettman changed it all to beer league hockey. That’s not OK in my book. This is just my opinion. I still don’t like dirty hits, slew footing and crap like that but let them battle and work for that paycheck. I’m an old time 70-80’s hockey fan, not a beer league supporter!
Daryl wasn't the solution ether… 😲
It's a different team now, Conroy traded half the team away and got nothing in return.
your forgetting how good the flames were under sutter before Tkachuck and Goudrough left. i have always said it is calgarys downfall getting rid of sutter. it has set us back years. sutter even said give me something to work with after Mathew and jhonny left. general manager at the time Brad Triliving hung us out to dry after firing sutter and then quit lol. Flames ownership needs some major self reflection to get a playoff contender team
