Hall charging on Hintz – Tough Call Recommendation

Taylor Hall was issued a penalty for charging Roope Hintz that was reviewed as a major and ultimately reduced to a minor. I actually don’t mind the decision to reduce this to a minor penalty by today’s NHL standard, but under the Tough Call System I’d have to ask to do more to prevent leaving the feet.
This is a longer than normal explanation because I want to be clear I don’t think it’s as horrific as it looks in real time and I want to point out the things he tries to do right. But I also want to emphasize the things he could do better if asked under my system because it gets muddy for new viewers when I say I think it’s not that bad but then also give a suspension at the end. Lol.
For today’s NHL I completely agree with the minor penalty and no suspension.

  1. Hall has always been a dirty player, which gets overlooked because he’s also (or he was) a skill player. Gotta feel for Hintz; between the Rempe and now Hall hits, he’s been through some tough times. Hope he’s ok.

  2. Thanks, just a tip.. would have been cool to see the hit replay in normal speed a few times.. even once would be awesome

  3. I’m fine with the hit, also ok that the ref gave him 2 minutes for the hit. But it’s not a dirty hit, rope Hintz needs to keep his head up.

  4. I think the refs got it right with the 2 minutes. Watching it live, there wasn't any kind of violent vibes to the game and they definitely didn't want a penalty at that point, so I highly doubt there was intent to hurt the other player, but he definitely left his feet and that resulted in a dangerous situation. He was trying too hard to make a big play in a close game and screwed up.
