The talent pool is not as good as in previous years. More entry level players each succeeding year.
defense wins championships . Just look at Florida's defense and forecheck the last two Stanley cup wins.
Edmonton lacks good defense. Their goaltending is suspect and they just spent a ton of money on two overrated defensemen in Nurse and Bouchard.

The oilers will ALWAYS start slow.
It’s quite simple…….Oilers have the two best players on planet Earth. They are allowed to make numerous mistakes with no consequences. If you are a new recruit you will get almost no opportunity to show your stuff…….you will get line blendered until you have no confidence left. This coach is scared and coaches accordingly!
Giving credit to the wings is a trash take.
I personally don't give 2 sh!ts if these guys season lasted til.the end of July. There is absolutely no valid reason for these guys to come out every season and suck a$$. They get paid more per game than most people make in a year, and to come out like that is totally unacceptable. If I were a professional athlete, I'd be doing everything i could to better myself during the offseason. The Oilers players must hump the dog till the day before training camp, too damn lazy to work on their game at all. I still haven't watched any of their games and I won't until there's big changes regarding nurse and Skinner. They have to be gone if this team ever wants a cup. Trade McDavid and attach nurse to the deal, the only way they'll have a chance at a cup imo.😡😡😡😡
