Maybe he’s focused on newer guys because he knows moves are coming and vets need opportunity to do well for their trade value while motivating younger guys? We are sitting in last place so it is possible.
He is not being utilized correctly and that's due because there's too many forwards this year and Roy needs to look at the new gyts Shabanov who's skilllset is top 6 you also have Heinemen. And it doesn't help his numbers if he is playing with Maclean. Holmstrom for the most part on defence has been eating pucks almost every game this season sacrificing the body.
Holmstrom and heinemen need to switch spots, heinemen is good but he’s a third liner at best and his skill set is better for a bottom 6 role, put holmstrom with horvat and drouin and I bet he takes off
Holmstrom needs to move up to a scoring line. He's done his time and proved his worth last year. Let Heinemen do the same. Roy says and does so many contradictory things. He talked about the wisdom (his) of starting McKinnon on the 4th line and letting him work his way up, then he plugs Heinemen into a top 2 line, and moves Holmstrom down to the 4th. If I were Holmstrom, I would ask for a trade if I'm held out of the lineup. He's gone from rising star to irrelevant, and it's all Roys' doing. Lets bring up Rocky and move Roy down to assistant.
Holstrom is a bust – gotta wash your hands on him. McClean's been decent, he did give the puck up at center ice that led to a goal vs Sen but still he is not the "better" skill level the team needs.
Sentimentality is the hallmark of this organization. It's why Cizikas is still on the roster…forget the fact that his usefulness as a hockey player has long since passed. It's why Matt Martin was on the roster last season, winning hockey games does not matter in the least, what matters is players that will hold hands and sing Kumbaya in the clubhouse.
Holmstrom took a couple of slapshots off his left ankle/foot in the second game so maybe he's been dealing with a lingering injury. Last game he made a nice curl into the slot and got off a hard wrist shot so hopefully he's coming around. Maybe a day off will do him good. Cizikas has not been good for a year now. He should be the thirteenth forward. The problem is that MacLean is not much better. Neither of them create any offense at all. We really need to hope Ritchie does well at Bridgeport and gets called up soon. He can start out on the fourth line and that should give us four good lines. Ritchie between Holmstrom and Tsyplakov could be a very effective line. As others have noted, we have a bunch of second and third line wingers. Our fourth line should be a strength against other teams fourth lines.
Roy has him on the fourth line! I mean the kid made progress last year and he’s on the fourth line. I don’t think Roy is here next year. His lines make no sense

Bench Cizikis. Pains me to say it, I love Casey but he has been AWFUL. Age finally caught up, injury??

A line of McLean, holmstrom, Tsyplakov might be a ridiculously good 4th line. Love zeek but he's been far from good this year.
He isn’t a 4th liner. This entire team is 2nd and 3rd liners, no real 1st or 4th liners which makes us incredibly easy to play against.

Sorokin needs to sit. He looks very average so far. Rittich earned a start
