Toronto Maple Leafs considering lineup shuffle with Auston Matthews-William Nylander reunion

The Toronto Maple Leafs decided not to hold practice after their loss to the Devils but coach Craig Berube hints at a potential shakeup during the team’s early-season struggles. Hosts Mike DiStefano and Dave Morassutti dissect potential lineup changes, including having Auston Matthews and William Nylander playing together. They analyze injury updates on Chris Tanev and Scott Laughton, while addressing Joseph Woll’s extended absence and its impact on Anthony Stolarz’s workload. The discussion shifts to a Co-Sign/No-Sign segment exploring early trade possibilities.

  1. I watched the Raptors’ regular-season opener and was so impressed with that dominant (138–118) win over the Atlanta Hawks. Why can’t the Leafs take more pages out of that defensively-sound Raptors team? It is of course too early to tell whether this season the Raptors will see playoff action just as it is for the Leafs. That said, I have been more impressed by how the Raptors have performed so far this month, including preseason play, than the Leafs. Each preseason game the Raptors played this month was close, with each such game decided by under 15 points. It may be that by March, the Raptors, instead of the Leafs, will be playing meaningful games.

  2. Leafs are a perfect example of players just playing for a pay check. No heart ,emotion, drive or desire, the contrast between the Jays players and Leafs is deafening. And I was telling everyone that this team was going to be harder to play against and it turns out they got softer (if that’s possible).

  3. PIZZA BOY ! Has not won a thing in the NHL. Made the Flames worse! Now the Leafs! Send him out of town on a rail!

  4. they gonna be a 1 line superteam?????😂😂😂😂😂 oh, when those 2 guys show up, both on the same night?????

  5. Congrats to Colton Ellis of the Buffalo Sabres on his first NHL win and to being the first Cape Breton born goalie to ever get a NHL win 🎉🤩👍

  6. If Matthews needs Willie to get their offense going then we let the wrong guy leave the team. This Captain is no Captain, leave Willie where he is on the 2nd line, which has been consistent for years. And Matthews, either man up or give up the C

  7. This year 4th line centre is out team falls apart, last year Matthews goes down for 15 games of the season and hurt all season long and the finished first in the division.
    I guess we will see.

  8. The media and brass did not properly assess the real situation with the team last year. Stolarz woll robbed 15 points from other teams last year. So then your down to 95 points. Then you lose marner who had 30 goals and 102 points so idk say another 15 points. So now your down to 80 points if you didn't have them. 44 was minus 8 and is on the ice for the majority of the goals against. Maybe knies and 34 aren't as good as we thought as well. I mean mathews had 4 empty netters and 15 power play goals. Only 17 even strength on a goalie while playing beside one of the greatest passers in the game.
So mathews and Reilly needed to go in my opinion ( 20 million in those 2).
What the team needed to recognize was stolarz was covering for how bad 44 was. 16 was covering for mathews and knies slump.
44 is a great forward put him up with mathews since you can't trade him. He is no marner but probably the best option. Then get a defensive dman to fill his spot. The gain is 2 fold mathews line gets an offensive boost while not needing to cover the 2 goals 44 causes against when playing defense. Get rid of every slow new guy none of which could hold a spot on their previous teams. Use that 12 million on the defense where it was actually needed.

  9. 16 teams allowed 239 goals or less last year (leafs in the 230's) The leafs had the best goalie tandem in the nhl yet allowed middle of the pack amount of goals. Plus they lost one of best defensive forwards in the game…. so they added 4 slow guys that had the worst plus minus's on their respective teams??? Why??? How was that supposed to help??

  10. Who is kidding who. This team has been bad for some time. They were out shot most games last year and their goalies saved them. No different now except now they can't score anymore.

  11. Maccelli Matthews Nylander
    Knies Tavares Domi,
would be pretty stellar 1st and 2nd lines.

    3rd and 4th lines:
    McMann Roy Joshua
    Cowan Laughton Lorentz

  12. Does nobody care about the defence and their turnovers. Even Matthews can’t s ore from his own end. Turnovers will kill
