Colorado Avalanche Goal Disallowed After Controversial Offside Ruling vs. Utah Mammoth

October 21, 2025: What is it with the Colorado Avalanche and controversial offside calls?  First, we had Matt Duchene offside by a mile. Then Cale Makar scored an onside delayed-touch goal. Now, we’ve got an offside play that has fans and broadcasters shaking their heads.

  1. The situation with the player exiting the ice is annoying enough as they are obviously not involved in the play and actively exiting the ice, but the MUCH bigger issue is how in the world is that not Guenther playing the puck in to his own zone?

  2. Yet another joke of a call from the league even with all the time to review it and get it correct. Imagine if the avalanche missed the playoffs by a single point.. not that they would, but these fuck ups matter. What if another team loses their playoff spot to Utah by one point?

  3. Too bad the “War Room” has never read the offsides rule. 🤔 Though not surprising given the lack of professionalism that is a hallmark of the NHL.

  4. If Nicushkin touches the puck before it completely crosses the blue line then its offside… with the puck fluttering like it was, its hard to say for sure- but it looks to me like he just missed touching it- which means that Guenther put the puck back in his own zone- so no offside- and a good goal. BUT the rule should allow for it to stand regardless- due to the player obviously switching off- and not involved in the play at all. They changed the too many men rule years ago- because just contact could draw a penalty- and players then started shooting the puck at opposing players just leaving or just getting on the ice, negating the reason for the rule. They also changed the skate in the crease rule years later too- when they realized the hard/fast rule was a detriment to the game.
