Rachel and Russ, please help me with this. I’m losing confidence in Drysdale. It just seems when he gets the puck, he tries to move it somewhere quickly. Often times the player he passes it to is even marked, putting them in a bad situation. I’m thinking he’s healthy now, so is it a confidence thing? Am I expecting too much to see him carry more, instead of playing hot potato. I don’t know much about his career prior than him on the Flyers. Seems there should be more to his game to warrant be drafted 6th overall. Thanks.
Hathaway’s performance slip is easily explainable, he was best when he was playing with Poehling. Poehling/Hathaway would have fit seamlessly into Toccs “pairs” concept. Nothing to do about it, he’ll just have to get comfortable once they settle on their permanent 4C which in the next 3 weeks should be Abols.
Thanks for the thoughtful response. I watch a lot of Flyers podcasts—including yours—regularly. I agree the refs definitely didn’t police the Wilson hit properly. But the players will have all season to respond and luckily the freedom to do so.
That said, and I mean this with full respect and no hostility, I do think it comes across as a bit overreaching as a viewer/podcaster to advocate for less fighting in a sport where it’s long been a part of the game. The speed and skill in today’s NHL are incredible, but they don’t override the deep tradition and emotional significance of fighting—for the players, the game, and the fans. Why advocate taking away something others enjoy just because you don’t like it?
If it truly didn’t belong anymore, I believe the players—who matter most in this conversation—would be the ones leading that change.
The world already feels over-regulated in so many ways, and while I consider myself pretty progressive, I also think we sometimes risk breaking things by trying too hard to soften them for an overly sensitive minority in the idealistic tropes around civility.
End rant lol
It’s obvious that Luchanko is going back to juniors eventually and the reason he’s not there now is because of the Guelph situation is not best for him. Outside of asking Guelph to try to trade him could the Flyers sweeten the pot a bit by sending some cash to that program if they agree to move him to a better situation? My guess is it is illegal but I’ve never heard that it wasn’t an option.
