The Montreal Canadiens need a true 2nd line center — and they can’t afford to wait any longer. After years of rebuilding, the Habs are still searching for that perfect piece down the middle to support Nick Suzuki and take this team to the next level.

Shaun Starr and Marco D’Amico break down what the Canadiens’ options really are — could the answer come from within the organization, or will Kent Hughes have to make a trade? We discuss every possibility: Alex Newhook, Kirby Dach, and even future prospects like Owen Beck or Michael Hage.

Can the Canadiens be competitive this season without a legitimate 2C? And how long can fans wait before management makes a move?

  1. Fowler, Hage, and Zharovsky are the solution. They better not be traded for a Crosby or someone old like him.

  2. Kudos to you for engaging so much in the comments Marco (and super respectfully even when people are kindof d!cks!!) You are a True Habs Nation Insider🌟

  3. Crosby would be nice…but if the "significant fit" becomes available in the meantime you take if (for a livable price)…and without ending up blocking key future prospects when they're ready. A cup contending Habs is later rather than sooner realistically.

  4. I forgot my crazy guess for a Crosby trade. In a deal to Colorado for Necas who will be flipped by Pitt. So another Rantanen for a next season UFA star player trade again. Colorado will not allow Necas to walk for nothing.

  5. Do you guys think that Demidov has enough talent to become a centreman.. His speed and range and hockey IQ are off the charts.. Why not try it early in the season.. I think he might surprise everyone

  6. The long term plan is still HAGE. I think the short term plan was/is still to wait closer to the trade deadline this year, hopefully you grab someone with term left (kind of how TB did this superbly when they added both Coleman and Goodrow with 1 year left.) Gorton and Hughes rarely trade from a position of weakness, which is kind of what you would do right now if you sound the alarm. Preferable to wait to shake that tree later as more options will probably be made available.

  7. The biggest need SIZE they have at least six players under 6' including two D sub 6'. PLEASE flush the 87 talk. Trade a kings ransom for a 39 year old player to supposedly help a team that is not anywhere near to competing for a Cup. Both of you need to give your head a vigorous shake.

  8. Kappy (as 2C doing fine) & Demidov are doing fine as stop gap, 4G & 5pts for ID. I would love Crosby but cost to get him for me too high plus age he could play at high level for yrs or not.

  9. Until Hage is ready, or they get a good deal, they are already 1 year ahead of schedule, HUGO is not going to deviate from the plan. You can;t get everything you want / need immediately

  10. Dach is either it or will be in a trade package. No. Don’t wait for Crosby. Can always add him later even if. 🙂

  11. Trading out young talent for Crosby would be a waste of our talent, with Hage,Zachovsy Reinbacher Engstrom Pickford we're contenders for years.

  12. How in the world can't people see that by years end with Dach staying healthy on a line with Demidov n Kappie. They'll be good a second line as any team has third line solid Galley Anderson n l prefer Velano over Evans.Fouth line Newhook Evans n whoever as a awesome checkin line cause these guys find it hard to hit the net evr as physical as noodles!!!en when their spooned n thei
