MAKE IT FIVE STRAIGHT IN HOCKEYTOWN!

Tune in as we open by discussing the Detroit Red Wings and their now 5 game win streak, starting with their win over Vasilevskiy and the Tampa Bay Lightning: Axel Sandin-Pellikka’s 1st goal, John Gibson’s redemption in net, Todd McLellan coaching the Red Wings to a dominant playstyle, and Dylan Larkin’s heroic overtime winner in Hockeytown.

Next, their win over Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and the Edmonton Oilers, Emmitt Finnie’s 1st career goal (& 2nd!), Dylan Larkin’s 2 goals & 4 point night, another John Gibson win, Lucas Raymond returning to the lineup as Patrick Kane was out with injury (Brandsegg-Nygard in his spot), & more. Also, a discussion on how solid the Detroit Red Wings defense currently looks under Trent Yawney (Moritz Seider and Ben Chiarot, Simon Edvinsson and Axel Sandin-Pellikka, and Albert Johansson and Jacob Bernard-Docker), the Red Wings leading the Atlantic Division, Larkin & Finnie among NHL leaders, & more.

After that, trade rumors in Detroit as Steve Yzerman may be looking to shed some roster jams via Erik Gustafsson, Justin Holl, or others (Berggren? Another depth forward?), as well as updates on Nate Danielson’s potential return as the team has him, Mazur, & so many others waiting in Grand Rapids.

Finally, NHL news & ridiculous stories before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment – enjoy!

  1. Dont think they played bad in the 3rd period not sure what you all watched but Oilers were desperate at the end its to be expected. I was proud of the Boys.

  2. excellent work gentlemen. I said this somewhere else today, but this is the beginning of the golden years for new Red Wings fans. Hopefully.

  3. can we have a whole episode dedicated to the utter disappointment and frustration in the lack of effort by ras? dude has to go yesterday

  4. Yes this 5-1 start is amazing, but I'm stunned that we are six games in, and all six of our current defensemen have points, plus both of our goalies are on the scoresheet.
JBD might be my favorite signing. Five games in and he is a +4? For close to a league min contract?Love it.

  5. Blackhawks fan of nearly 40yrs who is not a
Red Wings fan for most part (Yzerman, Lidstrom, Federov, Datsuk 4 of the best players of my lifetime and the last 2 I loved to watch), but you guys do a dope job and remind me of me and my boys.🫡

Hockey objectively more exciting when Red Wings (or any original six team for that matter) in the playoffs.

All I’ve had to cheer for in recent years in playoffs is for Panthers to make Canadian fans (especially Maple Leafs) cry with their brilliant team/culture hockey!😅

Red Wings, BlackHawks, Habs are def on the way up which is dope to see for hockey.

I’d love my Hawks to show signs, but also luck into McKenna or Verhoeff in 2026 draft bc they’re game breakers, but we may be too good for that especially with Knight playing so well in Goal.

Take care of my boy Kane AKA the American hockey GOAT when all is said and done (although Brett Hull, Modano, Brian Leetch, Quick & Chelios could make an argument as well especially BH & MM).

  6. Detroit Red Wings future line-up 2029-2030:

    Finnie Larkin Raymond
    Plante Kasper MBN
    Bear Danielson Buchelnikov or Genborg
    Lombardi Soderblom Kiiskinen
    Mazur

    Buium? Seider
    Edvidsson ASP
    Johansson Johansson or JBD
    Wallinder

    Augustine
    Cossa

  7. While all three of you guys were putting Ottawa above Montreal in your Atlantic division preview, I was shaking my head. I feel smart

  8. @wingedwheelpodcast still crapping on Albert.
I've been saying it since he came out of SHL… dude's Forsling 2.0.
Right now he works w/ JBD but I believe he's capable of playing opposite Seider as Cup Contender.

  9. If you told me last season that we'd go 10/10 on penalty kills, id have told you to pass whatever you were smoking. The PK is night and day different, hopefully it continues to be stellar!

  10. It would be crazy to talk about a missed shot attempt after a game with that many great moments, but that near sided shot ASP almost put in over Skinner’s shoulder was so filthy. That kid is going to be a problem for everyone very soon.

  11. My girlfriend was up In Detroit for work and I went up to see the Panthers game with her. She mentioned that the game is kinda boring and it made me smile. This defense has finally showed up to support the offense that has been there. great game. great run. I don't care if we are only 6 games in this team looks legit.

  12. I cant wait til end of year when.carter bears team gets eliminated and yzerman calls him.up. he made so many little skill plays in preseason. Hes really good. Hes gona help us if we are chasing playoffs. Carter bear plays puck hungry

  13. I still just can't even begin to process the Finnie story. Just how did we get a kid in the 7th two years ago that is already looking this fucking good?

  14. I was definitely one of the "Wait for kids" guys. Lol Especially after free agency. Yzerman would have to bring up some of the kids and hopefully we'd make the playoffs two years later. I'm glad he did it.

  15. But what's underrated here with Steve Yzerman and deserving of the credit is that this is why he leaves guys and the AHL or overseas for the amount of time that he does is because now once he does put them in the lineup they didn't look like this and are ready to not just be on the team but he was contributors to the team!.. 😊

    #Yzerplan/ LGRW!🪽🪽🪽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

  16. Last season, around January or February, I wasn't getting as excited as most. After the March collapse, when friends lamented that we were so close, I explained that we never really were that close. Our record seemed better than the team really was, because we had mostly played weaker opponents. Our remaining strength of schedule was by far the toughest among teams competing for a playoff position. Any view of the standings with statistical adjustments to account for this always showed us out of playoff position.

This season so far, it has been the reverse. I was apprehensive going into the season, with the first six games against all tough teams. Would the team lose most or all of these games, sapping team confidence? Now we can see that this didn't happen, and the Wings stand atop the Eastern Conference standings after the opening six games. It is too early to get too excited, but this time a view of the standings with statistical adjustments for strength of schedule would look even better for us!

Now we transition to a block of games against weaker opponents, and that presents a new set of challenges. Do we take them too lightly, and "play down to our competition"? Do the players start to get away from good habits, perhaps still playing well enough to beat weaker teams but losing their edge in the process? I hope not, but we will see over the next few weeks.

  17. Doing a winning streak without DeBrincat having some stat line like 9 goals in 5 games is impressive. Could use some more Kasper points as well.

  18. Feels like 1991 when a few rookies started something special. By the way, what do you think about calling the first line the "LFR" line. Just to remind your buddy Dangle of what's to come for the next several years. Hopefully it's not a copyright strike 😂😂

  19. Not to lecture the Todd father but really would like to see Soderblom, van Riemsdyk and Rasmussen on the road causing mayhem in the offensive zone.

  20. It’s easier for the boys to play good teams. The last few years they played bad against Bad Teams. So just wait 5 more games
