Leafs fan here and not a fan of Auston's… but honestly the way he's handling himself in these scrums gave me a bit of respect for the guy. Especially the US player captaining team USA in a Canadian city. Quite respectful, and that's coming from a Canadian guy as well.
I personally don't like the way he treats the media. Yeah, some of the questions are dumb, but they're just doing their jobs. Hockey players barely ever want to reveal anything personal or of substance, so why do you think they get these silly questions?
A better leader would find a way to politely move on to the next question instead of the patronizing, passive aggressive stuff.
The way Matty deals with the Toronto media is iconic and hilarious. Gotta have a sense of humour or it'll eat you alive. Some guys are just built to play here. 💙
