I think you almost have to lock him up because if he goes UFA next year to another team now you’re stuck with Antti IR Raanta and a couple other options that either aren’t exactly nhl ready or just not up to par.
Im excited for it assuning he can do what he did for us last year again. I love Anntti, but I think hes gonna he gone in the next day or so and thats why Comrie came in. Those injuries are just brutal and I think Chayka is shopping him around.

Not bad for a Hart winner, (Yes, you, Internet know-it-all, I know he didn't actually win it. He was just most valuable to his team, one that had no 20 goal scorers or 50 point players and really only one name defenceman, but only missed playoffs by a hair.) but if he can't replicate it next season it could be an overpayment.
Ranta needs to make a save
If Kuemper has another year like he did last year, he would be making more in free agency next year for sure, so it's a good bet to pay him a decent price now rather than pay him more down the road
Yotes have learned a few lessons with goalies. Trading Dubnik to the Wild! Doh! Signing Mike Smith to a multi year/million $ deal after one respectable season? I hope they've done some reflecting before jumping to decide.

I think this is a great contract. High reward, low risk. I don’t feel worried about this at all
The writing is on the wall regarding Raanta. They probably figure the best case scenario is that both Raanta and Kuemper are healthy and increase their worth this season splitting duties in the net. If Raanta gets injured again then they have Comrie and they may start to move on from Raanta. This gives a little bit of stability in the nets for an additional two seasons while things play out. My prediction is that Kuemper gets more starts than Raanta during that span however largely due to health.
The league we are in now, need to spend it before any real progression for the franchise. These players want to get paid with any showing of a decent to Steller season.
I really think the plan is to move on from Rantaa
The contract looks reasonable right now. If something goes wrong, the short term on the contract will not make it a chronic problem.

It will be really interesting to see how all these contracts work out for Yotes. Either Chayka is gonna look like a genius or he'll find himself out. They'll need to make playoffs next year at the least.

this surprised me mainly because of the waiver pickup of Comrie from Winnipeg. Do they now try and put Comrie in the AHL and hope Winnipeg doesn't claim him right back?

Happy for Kuemps. I liked him when he was here in MN. I like seeing these guys succeed even after moving on to new teams.
