It was another losing season for the Pittsburgh Pirates. With continued frustration from fans, a city council member wants to sit down with leadership to see what is going on. They want the city of champions to have champions.

It’s another October and playoff baseball is in full swing. But PNC Park sits empty. Councilwoman Theresa Kail Smith wants that to change.

“I think there’s a lot of discussion. The Pirates’ agreement with the stadium authority is up in a few years and it’d be a great time to have a conversation,” Kail Smith said.

Despite calls from fans to sell the team, Kail Smith said she’s not pounding the table for an ownership change.

“There’s a group of people that want to have this meeting that have that theory. That’s not me. What I can tell you is I’m grateful for what the Pirates have done for the city of Pittsburgh,” Kail Smith said.

  1. If I can ever move from Detroit to Yinzer Town, I’ll find a way to go often to PNC. I love the downtown Pittsburgh area.

    Downtown Cbus is great too!

  2. Brodie, I would also tell Mike to follow Dejan Kovacevic of DK Pittsburgh Sports. Dejan has covered the Pirates for over 30 years and he would be the best person to talk to about the current Pirates situation.

I'm also asking you Brodie if you could invite Dejan to the channel. He would be a great guest to interview. Maybe get in touch with him during the Penguins/Sharks contest at PPG Paints Arena.

  3. It seems like it’s starting to get to this point similar to the A’s in Oakland. Although PNC park is much newer but the ownership is garbage.

  4. PNC is the best in mlb but nothing is sacred in today's industry. I could very easily seem them wanting to move to a suburb to build a boring manica designed ballpark with an overrated Battery like development and if they don't get public funding bolting to one of the many cities trying to get an expansion team.

  5. No, Both were cheap but Oakland didn't want to pay for a new stadium. Nutting is just waiting for a salary cap and even than under pay

  6. Another lifelong pirate fan and let me tell you why they wont leave. They play in a beautiful park the As played in a dump. Their rent. 500k a year. One of the cheapest leases IN PRO SPORTS. The As payed 1.5 million to play in a dump in 2023. 3rd Nutting is from wheeling wv. An hour outside Pittsburgh. Without selling they wont be moving and with revenue sharing Nutting makes all the cash in the world off the Yankees and Dodgers.

  7. Due to the economics of baseball and the horrible ownership of my Pirates, I’ve just stopped paying attention, except in a general kind of way. I don’t go to games. I don’t get MLB TV. I watch minor-league baseball and high-level college softball. Until there is a salary floor and a salary cap, nothing is gonna change in Pittsburgh. Signed, a Green Bay Packers shareholder and Pirates fan since 1970.

  8. * sees this video title * For the sake of the Yinzers, I sincerely hope not. I don't want to see another city and fan base that deserves better go through the things that Mike is describing, especially with the storied history of that franchise and the fact that Pittsburgh has one of the most stunning ballparks in Major League Baseball. I feel you, Mike.

I also feel you, Brodie. You were and still are the expert on the A's situation, and sadly it probably came at the expense of your mental health. I think I can speak for everyone here when I say that as much as we respect your expertise in many things, we don't want to even entertain the possibility of you becoming an expert on the "Pirates moving" or any other situation similar to that of the A's. We want you talking about lots of other stuff instead.

  9. Pirates ownership doesn’t pay for talent where they are, so they going to move and not pay players somewhere else?
