In today’s Day After Episode, Austin discusses the standouts and not-so standouts from the Oilers victory vs the Rangers. Austin also goes over the projected lineup VS the Islanders where it appears Matthew Savoie has been relegated to the 4th line. Just bought my tix for the Canucks v Oilers here in van. Hopefully you remember our bet
I love Dark Stu lol
Lol @ the term 'wack' (0:39) duude…what an 80s word eh?
*Edit: regarding Stu's play now and prior, do you mean comparable to an active 'seismograph (sudden ups and downs) due to inconsistency?
Cheers for your creation for summarization, Austin!!
Still a big proponent of trading Skinner now while his value is high. Joey Daccord has performed SO MUCH BETTER when the defense left him out to dry. Skinner had consistently shown NOT to do that when it mattered most.
❤
I thought Regula must’ve gone to Singapore cuz he sure the heck got Kaned…
Find myself agreeing very much with your standouts and not-so-standouts Austin. 😊
Now just wish your score predictions were as accurate as the standout analyses are, Austin hockey guarantee and all 🧡💙🧡
I reckon 4-2 win against the Islanders.🎉
Oiler-Tastic?
Thank god McDrai got a McDivorce.
I love how you assume everyone is an Oilers fan who listen lol
I really liked Podzilla-Drai-Savoie last year. Why do they refuse to give this a shot again?????
Breadman – Davo – Tommy Snipes
Podzilla – Drai – Savoie
Freddy – Nuge – Roslovic
Ike – Philp – Cheeks Klapanen
We finally have some strong young players give them a real shot lest we forget what happened with Broberg and Holloway…
I guess the lineup is hard to figure out right now. Here’s how I see it:
First, the way to handle Ike. In my opinion, giving him the home opener and the first away trip is the right call. Let him play the next two games, and then he needs a development plan for the AHL. Send him down, let him learn to play against men with a lot of icetime. If he succeeds there, you can bring him back after the Olympic break. I wouldn't call him up for an injury replacement—his development is key. This all comes down to good communication between the NHL/AHL coaches and Ike.
As for Savoie's position, it depends on how they handle Podz and Kapanen. It seems like Knoblauch wants them to play together, and I get it. They benefit from each other: Kapanen is fast, and Podz is the puck chaser who recovers pucks in the offensive zone. Let them build chemistry. I also think that's the pairing you use to get defensive shit done, so there's no spot for Savoie on the 3rd line.
So, he's competing with Nuge, Roslovic, Mangiapane, and Tomasek for a spot in the top two lines. It's hard to knock any of those guys out. Roslovic needs to show his value by November so the Oilers can decide if they want to keep him. Mangiapane is a set top-six winger, and so is Nuge if he's not at center. It really comes down to Tomasek or Savoie for a top-line or fourth-line spot. And right now, Tomasek's grittiness is more important, especially if he’s playing on a line with McDavid and Mangiapane.
Even if it's the fourth line, it's not a bad spot if his time on ice is fine. If it stays around 12-13 minutes, that's good for a young player. Let him earn more minutes over the season. As long as Savoie's line gets offensive zone shifts, it's a good place to develop (and better to have him on a line with Henrique than Frederick, in my view). You just have to make sure he doesn't get eaten alive by other teams' fourth lines.
Let Savoie play his minutes, get some experience, and earn a top-line position this season. It's better than giving him too much pressure with the big guys that he might not be able to handle yet.
Tomasek looked handy !
Oilers fan here…. I expect Stu to get lit up the next game. And the game after that, it’s a sh— o-t 😂
I think there’s not much space for Savoie in the top 6, Tomasek has been playing better than him, and we already know Roslovic is likely going to outshine him. Yeah you could probably play him on that 3rd line but that line just scored a goal last night. So yeah idk.
Also Rico will probably be pulled for Philp once he hits 1000 games played. 996 now.
I wouldn’t put much stock in tomorrows lineup. Knoblauch in an interview this morning said he’s testing things out this road trip and that there will likely be a more concrete lineup after the road trip.
What do you think Kulak's contract value is to renew?
4th line with savoie would be fine if he had a better fit for linemates, Howard is just a bit weak in the NHL and I think Philp would fit better as his center than Henrique. Podkolzin – Philp – Savoie might be a sweet line for when Hyman is back if everyone on left wing moves down a spot, or swap podkolzin for mangi. Either way, I think knobs will try every possible combo by the end of the season – the options they have for bottom 6 has me excited!
How do you feel about 13-4?!!
