The Dallas Stars swept their two-goal season-opening road trip, as they beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 in a shootout on Saturday night at Ball Arena. Jake Oettinger put on a dazzling display, stopping 35-of-39 shots through regulation and overtime and then going 2-for-3 in the shootout to earn his second win of the year. In a very entertaining affair, the Stars led 1-0, 3-2 and 4-3 before ultimately winning via the skills contest, while the Avalanche led 2-1 and clawed back from three deficits to earn a point in their first non-win of 2025-26. Thomas Harley led the way for Dallas with a two-point night (1 goal, 1 assist). The Stars also received goals from Nathan Bastian, his first as a Star, Wyatt Johnston and Jason Robertson. Im tired of hearing Dallas fans say they are better than the Avs. Y’all get doubled up on shots every single game against the Avs. Y’all get out played 5-5 every single game. Y’all are luckier than the Avs. Y’all have some weird curse you’ve put on that team. Otter is literally the only reason you win when you play the Avs. They could outshoot you 100-1 and y’all would still win because of some weird juju. Quit saying you are the better team. Start saying you are the luckier team.

How in the world was Ottenger not one of the 3 stars of the game? I get Mackinnon. But Nelson #2? Huh!? Necas i could understand as well. Have to say Colorado has the homerest of homers. I can't stand to listen to their call. They show no acknowledgement of the other teams. Every game I swear there is so comment of how they have never seen anything so awful against them. Im thinking did you just start watching today? We definitely got outplayed for 3/4 of it. I loved the fight. That seemed to give us a boost. We were fortunate to even get 1 point. Ottenger was amazing!
Let me say this…Ludwig is weirdly obsessed with Wyatt, to the point he blames him for goals he isn’t responsible for giving up. It affects his analysis…First, Wyatt wasn’t the centerman on the once for the Neccas goal, Hintz was…Second, Wyatt wasn’t even in the vicinity when Neccas scored, he was on the opposite side of the ice…Rantanen was over there. And Wyatt had to travel to that side because Nils didn’t move out…All Nils did was point at Rantanen to get McKinnon (instead of moving out himself). Wyatt, seeing this, travels to that side to pick up McKinnon. Neither Nils nor Lindell rotated. Instead, Nils ran into Lindell, and they left Neccas wide open. In other words, because Nils was out of position, Wyatt was forced to come over and help with McKinnon…nobody picked up Neccas. With that, the Avs scored 4 goals…why did Ludwig immediately highlight (as an example), the one Wyatt was on the ice for?
Last year playoffs, any time Wyatt was on the ice when a goal was scored, Ludwig would fault even if other players also missed their assignment, “well that was Wyatt’s man”. This year, he will blame Wyatt, even if it isn’t his man lol. During the preseason, for example, he would acknowledge it wasn’t Wyatt’s man but still blame him.
It’s very strange, especially when you considered that Wyatt made great defensive plays this game. Wyatt can’t play 5 positions….and if he moves to one side of the ice, traveling with the puck, the rest of the guys (likewise) need to rotate.…He was on the right side of the ice when Neccas scored (from the left side). Where was the defensemen lol?
