The Toronto Maple Leafs had to grind out a 2-1 overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres. Vegas's blueline is what the Leafs blueline would be if Dubas had been remotely competent. Hopefully Treliving can fix it in the off season.
Yesterday was depressing for the leafs, and I don't think it gets much better today or tomorrow. Its a cap-crunched roster heavy on forwards, light on D, that has mostly bare cupboards to deal from. As depressing as it is, I never expected that this was going to be the Leafs window. Tavares needs to come off the books at $11M, they need to figure out what they want to do with Marner, part ways with Brodie or sign him at a heavily reduced amount, build up some picks and prospects, and things will look better. It will take a little more time to recover from Dubas. In the meantime, protect Cowan, Minten their #1 and recoup the depth picks. They've wasted a lot of the Big 4's window … but there is still time. Even with that, lots of challenges with the likes of the VGK, Avs, and Panthers. They just keep getting stronger. Oh yeah … please tell me we're not going to to dive into 6x$6.5M for Colton Parayko. The hole is plenty deep enough.
