   I dunno seems like a fair deal for a defender that had a similar rookie season to Gostisbeher. I mean host is definitely his floor but there’s no guarantee he’s going to be a superstar

   He's really good as an offensive defenceman, that we already know.
   He's good in defense with his stick handling but he might be un-reliable in playoff hockey since things get more dirty. He's still 5'10'' afterall.
   I really think it might be team friendly deal but overall a really good deal for both sides.

   It is a fair deal for both sides. In an open market, Hutson is worth more but he is very far away from RFA and UFA. Hutson does not even have arbitration rights. Dobson's contract covered his UFA years. It is not an apple to apple comparison.
   It is great that Hutson values being part of the team and winning more than squeezing the last dollar of the contract.
   Good job on both sides to come to an agreement.

   Luke Hughes' situation is different. The Devils are looking ahead with Jack and Quinn. If they sour the relationship with the Hughes' family, they will have no chance to re-sign Jack (the face of the franchise). Also their current D has injury. If the Devils do not make the playoff this year, the GM is likely to be fired. The Devils have no choice but to overpay Luke.

    It's not a steal.. Hugues bought 1-2 years of UFA from what I understand.

    And he is overpaying for a player without rights… It's a deal in the last 3-4 years however.

    Ok can I just point out that this contract is not without risk,
    That being said i think its a great contract, because even if his play never progresses beyond what he has already shown with the cap going up it will never be worse than an ok contract

    8.85 for Hutson, 7.6 for Slafkovsky, 7.88 Suzuki, 7.85 caufield, 9.5 Dobson, 5.55 Guhle, these are the exact numbers. They have most of their core signed for a total of 47.23 million, Put that into perspective This is very close to the number that Toronto had 4 players signed to when the cap was dead.

    He was offered 8 years 9 million with no signing bonuses tied to the contract… Lane Hutson actually took “more” if you know anything about contracts, Lane Hutson signed a deal that makes the cap hit lower, But he actually gets more money into his pocket with this deal because of the signing bonuses so if he did take the 8×9 he would have actually taken less money home because of taxes, But with the signing bonuses he gets taxed less and gets to take home more.

    What he really needs to get credit for is stepping in and telling his side to stop fucking around and get it done… All these negotiations were with Hutson sitting on the sidelines and ignoring it all, He stepped in and got this moving and took a deal
    That was beneficial for both sides… Kids a legend..
