Marco D’Amico has the best breakdown on this as no one has been more accurate on that team or follows them closer. They apparently agreed on term and AAV but it’s how the contract is structured that is the problem. Steve is bang on though. Take a break it’s not a big deal.

As great as Lane is a player; he can not kill penalties, he can not be on the ice when you are protecting the lead and also, he require a particular type of defenseman to balance him out for his pairing to work. A true # 1 does not require any of these caveats. Plus he is a 10.2(c) RFA. He has no arbitration rights, he can not sign an offer sheet and has only played 1 season. The fair contract is 8.75M for 7 years…
This is pretty much a non story that that media is trying to spin into something. Each passing day the power of negotiation moves towards the Canadiens. Keep holding firm and it’ll get done soon enough.

In most cases i think people fail to realize that 6 or 7 mil 3 years ago is 9 to 10 today, and 10 to 11 in a few years….. but here…. this kid doesnt deserve more than Hughes come on 😂 give him 8.5 and call it a day

In the vacuum of the Conner McDavid signing , it left media types like Steve Dangle's boy Chris Johnston & the rest of his vulture like media brethren scurrying in the void trying to stir up controversy where there isn't any fill in their write ups. This is a nothing burger & Hutson will eventually get a reasonable signing in a timely. fashion. This just an example of how scummy & opportunistic sports media is. Vancouver, Toronto & French Montreal media are probably the worst reporting the NHL as they usually spread a lot fake gossip which have hindered the progress of their local teams for decades.
