I actually like this trade for both teams, but give the Sens the edge for picking up an NHL level player which allows the kids to stay on the farm.

I think rangers should play Ebert a couple games see how he dose I think he can be a decent 7th defenseman or a defenseman that gets called up and down when injuries happen

maybe he can do something in ottawa. not a good player in my view, but playing in a pressure cooker environment in new york maybe did not help matters. lot of maybes with this guy. it's one season, give him what would be his last shot, see what happens. maybe he's just khl, nothing more. maybe he'll go there. maybe i'm just blowing smoke, maybe i don't know what i'm talking about…

So Ottawa wins a trade by taking a cap dump and handing over a draft pick. Not really familiar with Namstinkov but he seems to be another 3rd liner that we already have too many of. Would rather call up Paul and keep our picks.
I can see why they made this move to clear up cap and to make room for prospects like Chytil and Kravtsov, but damn.

It also means a roster spot for Kravtsov. Rangers wanted him up at the beginning of the season, but, had no roster spot open for him. Now, they do. And, the salary cap, of course. For me, a Ranger win.

Namestnikov is a very average player. He can be easily replaced.
My one issue with this deal is the timing. I really hope that Chytil and Kravtsov cement their places in the NHL roster quickly because I don't want to see a revolving door of useless players like Di Gueseppe, Nieves, and Vinni Lettieri. Namestnikov, for an average player, had a good amount of NHL experience and you knew what you were getting from him – some speed, an occasional goal, high work rate. Those two young guys have the door wide open for them, so let's (NYR fans) hope they take that chance.
The Rangers were so cap strapped they couldn't have a 23 player roster. The 3.2M means they can bring up players. That's a better opportunity than keeping VN on the 3rd or 4th line all year. He needs to play with other skilled guys, he wasn't gonna get that chance with New York this year.
