I’m going to be honest; I’m not excited about Winterton. I hope he proves me wrong, I really do. But he has never struck me as an NHL caliber player. I’m leaning toward wanting Catton to get his nine games and then hopefully they can figure out something better for his development than juniors, like they did with Shaner. But I am excited to see what he can do, and really don’t want him up in the press box.
Overall, I’m expecting us to do better than last year (provided we don’t suffer too many injuries). Last season we really got unlucky with Dunner being out so much, and then Ebs.
This season has the theoretical potential to be like season two if the hockey gods gift us puck luck, and goaltending is solid.
As usual, I have concerns that our team is on the smaller side and also soft. Especially concerned given the league is trending more physical. If I were Catton, I’d sure watch my back…
Anyway win or lose I’ll be along for the ride. Love this team even though there’s a lot to criticize. I don’t think you’re really a true fan if you don’t have concerns about hour team. Someone who has nothing but positive things to say must not be paying close enough attention.
Anyway great show, as usual.
I think Lambert is probably the right guy for winning games this season, but I’m unsold on his ability to develop the youth. I’ve been impressed by his interviews and what I’ve seen of him in practice and preseason.
I’m cautiously optimistic on his ability to coach the team to a non embarrassing record but for an effective medium/long term game plan for the team, I’m not sure yet.
Good to hear you’re getting to talk with RJ and the other local media people and making the most of your time in Seattle!
I’m biased as a Seattle resident but former NJ Devils resident so I’m routing for my NJ Devils #1 and then Kraken. Lambert has decent system so far. Preseason is preseason, but it seems like Lambert is following similar systems to Toronto and my Devils. The young guns also appear to have a shoot first mentality. I like Catton and I think Stevenson? Is his name. Don’t watch much Kraken hockey but… with Amazon prime having games now I can watch them all. I will say if Grubauer is on the roster and can play the way he did in preseason. Thats a good sign for the team to take a stepping stone to get toward playoffs but we’ll see.
