In this video, I highlight the players who stood out to me during the Vancouver Canucks’ preseason, as the team officially announces its opening night roster.
From Elias Pettersson looking fired up again, to Thatcher Demko already in mid-season form, to Jonathan Lekkerimäki and Victor Mancini proving they belong. It’s been a preseason full of storylines, the biggest one being 18-year-old Braeden Cootes making the team. Cootes will be the first 18-year-old to crack the Canucks’ opening night lineup since Petr Nedvěd did it back in 1990.

I’m not even going to predict because when I do I swear they lose. But I’m stoked to watch this new line up. Disappointed Mancini isn’t on the roster but I’m sure we’ll still see him this year. Interested to see how Bains does in the big league.
I really hope cootes ends up as a deep regret for other teams that drafted before us. (Like when we didn’t take pasta)

Two years ago I made a joke bet at the start of the season. Canucks would win the conference trophy, and I think I'll do another this year. WE WINNING A CUP BABY, I don't think I've seen that even of depth on ANY team! I'm having heart palpitations just looking at that lineup!!!
I think fans need to be realistic and prepared if Cootes is sent down after 9 games. His development matters more than one season. He’s been very impressive for his age and size, but if he struggles a bit going forward, that’s fine and there’s no shame in giving him one more year in junior. We do not want to Jake Virtanen this kid.

I think the Miller trade is looking really bad now in certain eyes for the Rangers. He got named captain. People have shit on that move.
Chytil looks great. And Quinn Hughes Jr <3 Let alone the 3rd petey on the team…
Their forward depth doesn't stack up to the other strong teams in the Western conference but that isn't what the team is built around either. I like Vancouver's defensive depth and their goaltending tandem looks strong too. Looking forward to the season getting started!

I think we are lucky the Cootes played in Seattle last season, a team that wasn’t particularly strong in the WHL which limited his point scoring total. If he was on a WHL contender and put up 80+ points in 60 WHL games, he might’ve gone top 10 instead of making it here to 15.
