Lightning weren't subtle. they called up non NHL level players to play goons. Lightning should've had their staterts gooning up the Panthers. that would've been more subtle.

The worst thing about Woll being out is it gives the remaining core a built in excuse if they don’t produce this year. It will be “oh they had a back up goalie”. This was finally going to be the accountability year to see if Nylander and Matthews could actually lead this team further in the playoffs.

The reason the Panthers get away with murder does have something to do with favouritism from the League, for sure. But on a simpler level I think it's that lots of people in positions of power in the NHL were dirty goons themselves and on a subconscious level they empathise with the bullies over the people standing up to them. For some reason we just live in a society where retaliation to violence is worse than initiating it. It's like the kid at school who gets picked on everyday, finally retaliates and bloodies the bullies nose, and then he's the one who gets punished by the principle.

I would say Matthews 69 goals was inflated in terms of his entire team in the last 20 games of the season was always looking for him . Regarding Marner being gone…I don't believe he needs Marner to score. He scored a lot before and made it to the NHL without him. But scoring 69 is unrealistic. I hope he doesn't anyway. Team needs to be more balanced throughout the line up. It's not a team game when you have one guy scoring every game.
