It makes sense. What's the difference between a career earnings of 200 million or 220 million. Ya 20 million is a lot of money, to average people. That extra 20 is not going to make a difference in his life. I'm surprised more star athletes don't do this. His legacy means more than a few million.

It doesn't seem right, I know he's thinking about the team, but it's a business at the end of the day, why doesn't the owner throw 6/7 million into his team, extra, because there's no way in hell he's giving money away like mcdavid just did, it's lopsided and I don't think Conner helped the NHLPA by doing this. He's at least 2/3 million better than the thrill
As an Oilers fan, I won’t be mad at Connor for a second if he decides to leave after this new contract. Grateful he’s giving the organization and City 13 years of everything he’s got. Great leadership.

3 years left but really its 2 and a half ish cause if they dont win in those years with him the last year he will ask for a trade the last year the cap will be 114 million and im sure the oilers will eat half his contract so his cap hit will 6.25 mil for a team who scoops him come trade deadline in "3 years" ,if oilers aint running away with it in that 3rd year by trade deadline hes gone

How about giving up 2 of the best rookies last year for nothing? Either McDavid has a screw loose or he has to approve every player trade in the next 3 years. As far as Eichel goes: I believe he’ll sign for lower than people think too. I believe they’ll extend Mark Stone for a year or two too. He still has 2 years let on his deal, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jack would take a lower amount to have Stone and Marner there through most of his future deal

Quite sad that there isn't a bigger number of great free agents that the oilers can get with this savings. Like a patrick roy trade or the guys that the penguins got during the 91 and 92 runs. Some great vets that can take the pressure off of mcdavid having to score. Unfortunately, I think this was his last chance at making what he's worth unless he stays after three years. He'll have to take a lot less if he decides to chase a cup. I know that in 3 years that the landscape will most likely look different than now but I really hope the oilers can win one and then seeing the mcdavid sweepstakes will be something that the nhl hasn't seen in forever! Pull a page from lebron and get some friends together and go to a team!
