  1. Agents of other high caliber players are surely in shambles hearing this news. One that comes to mind is Kyle Connor. 12.5M is probably what a lot of people were expecting for him, now the Jets have leverage to offer 10-11M.

  2. but what other thing(s) did he get that we don't know about ? when it comes to money and making deals it's very evident that today we're living in a time where the general public will never know the truth. šŸ’šŸ„…ā›øā›ø

  3. Why did he wait so long to do this wouldn’t they have had the ability to go sign more talent if he did this right after they lost in the finals?

  4. I realise that you live on the clickbait, but this is the opposite of insane. He doesn't need the money and he wants his team to do well. Your comment "he's not going to be broke" (well, no, he isn't) is really symptomatic for the greed that we somehow take for granted in society.

  5. who gives a crap what the nhl pa thinks, this is a man trying to get his team a stanley cup. the reality is that teams should not be putting all their money in 3 good players, and yet teams do anyways, and that’s how it’s been. a shift of perspective could be what teams like toronto and edmonton need to win.

  6. Crosby is making 8.7 STILL. You can’t be mad at McDavid as the NHLPA. I also don’t think it’s as rainbows and butterflies as they claim; I suspect McDavid was offered Kaprizov money and frankly said ā€œI don’t know if I want to commit to 8 years with a franchise that hasn’t been able to pull it off.ā€ He may have realized it was make them do a short contract at less otherwise he’d have to walk and then he’s hoping a contender can afford him.

  7. He's playing in one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Think offshore accounts!
    Just thinking out loud.

  8. Small print says: i'll take 12,5 and the rest goes to buying a goalie, tired of seeing that skin hangin' there between pipes.

  9. As a Flames fan this makes it so hard to dislike the guy. What a mad man. If Bowman can get his shit together it's gonna be a scary couple years. Time will tell šŸ‘€

  10. All he wants is the goalies off the books. If youre talking otherwise….. youre trash. Speak the truth. Skinner should've retired out of respect.

  11. I know more about the playing side of hockey rather than team building side. Can someone enlighten me why wouldn’t McDavid (or any other elite star) take insanely team friendly deal. Like I get that 12,5 deal is basically free considering what Edmonton gets, but why wouldn’t McDavid (or similar star) take like 2m deal to improve the team.

Like is there any mechanism preventing that? Higher risk of offer sheet maybe?

(Edit: and don’t say just money, obviously players want to make money as well, and their staff, but I know there are players who value the game more then big payout)

  12. this is such a joke lol, easily the most team friendly deal in the history of the nhl and hes doing it for a management team that consistently makes awful signings on bottom 6 guys. This is the kind of awful management that kept them in a hole for 10 years and won them 4 years of draft lottery. I cant wait to see the last year tick away on this contract and laugh while the best hockey player of this generation leaves Edmonton having lost out on millions of dollars and still not having won a cup. Would be even better to see him walk in free agancy for nothing, after all i doubt the organization has much say over what happens if they shit the bed for the next couple years considering the absolutely massive olive branch McDavid is giving them.

  13. TOO MANY 3 LETTER ABBREVIATIONS TO COMPREHEND WTF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT…I REMEMBER WHEN HOCKEY WAS ABOUT PERFORMANCE AND HEART, NOT CONTRACTS – THESE NUMBERS ARE SUCH BS……

  14. I just hope the boys can pull it together, because to quote what my Dad told me ā€œIf McDavid wins a Cup with you guys, he’ll stay for his careerā€. Which I hope would be true but I don’t think he’ll stay after those 2 years (we aren’t winning a cup)
