Projecting the Penguins opening night roster!

The young guys are playing well, the cuts are coming, but the question is: who will make the Penguins’ 23-man roster? Hunter and Patrick begin the show discussing another preseason victory for the Penguins, and how it was powered by the prospects and young players. Once again, first-round pick Ben Kindel showed that he might make a push to make the team (2:55), and offseason acquisition Matt Dumba turned in another strong performance. Then, they give their predictions for the opening night roster (13:26) and discuss which veterans will make it and which young guys might not. Finally, Hunter shares his observations from practice (30:45), and Patrick makes a wild comparison for Kindel.

  1. I think you give Kindle this run, definitely not the 82. But I get your point, at the same time how often do players end up adjusting this quick, Sid said it himself. The difference between him and bruinke, Kindle continues to look better in each game no matter the talent, bruinke continues to struggle against the nhl talent. 🤷🏼‍♂️ That's my view. I agree he shouldn't have a full season but definitely think he's earned this, and he should play with Geno over brazeau

  2. Every time I seen a negative comment regarding Kindle being the pens first pick I just smiled to myself. People are so quick to judge.
    Not me.
Is Rust really hurt? or is he hurt to open a spot temporarily (wink wink)

  3. I know Harrison should have made the team last year but he did drop off in the last 2 preseason games last year. More importantly it happen again last night which to me puts the Penguins in bind if he doesn't turn it around in the last preseason game and show the start of a trend again this year. I wonder if they have him go play pro in Europe instead of going back to Juniors.

  4. Rust is always hurt, it's kinda getting old, I'd seriously look to move him because it's not a matter of but when.

  5. Hunter I love your content and the show itself is good but is there anyway you could get damp to speed up his delivery some? The long pauses and long delivery sucks up a lot of time that content could be delivered. I’m not trying to hate on the guy cause his info is decent it’s just the delivery makes it feel like it’s dragging along. I appreciate the effort and work you both put in bro

  6. Hunter's point of "Kindel isn't built for an 82 game schedule" while discussing an up to 9 game trial is a little weird. No one is saying 82, but a few games to show him what he needs to personally focus on to be ready for the nhl can only benefit his development.

  7. Mr Damp, love your well thought out, calculated delivery. You guys compliment each other well and have turned into my favorite Pens channel by a mile.

  8. Personally, I think that they should give Kindel the nine games, and if he continues to play well, they should keep him in Pittsburgh. They would be better served to bring him along like Anaheim did with Leo Carlsson. If he could go down to WBS, that'd be suitable, but I don't think that sending him back to the juniors would serve him, or the team, well.
Honestly, I just want to see the kid make liars out of everyone who crapped on him being picked at 11.

  9. The Caleb Jones thing is confusing because he hasn't really played well and didn't not look good in the game when paired with Letang.

  10. I understand that Brunicke had a rough game last night and that he fell off in the final 2 games last preseason. I still think he needs to stay for at least his 9 games. Rather than give up again this season and sending him to juniors because a developing player plateaued why not see how he plays on the last preseason game and give him a couple regular season games like Rutger got last season to see if he can push through sticking point. If his problem is tendencies he’s learned in juniors keep him out of juniors as long as possible.

  11. I dont see Tomasino on the roster… If I had a choice between Avery Hayes & Tomasino, I'd waive Tomasino. It's not like we traded a lot to get him.

  12. Anyone who is hanging around, following the penguins and following this show deserves a badge of honor right now.

It's likely to be a tough season but either we exceed expectations or have a decent shot at McKenna? I dont hate those options.

  13. Matt Dumba is actually a pretty good defenseman … his biggest challenge has been health. It wouldn't surprise me if his struggles last season were because he was trying to play through an injury. He's probably as healthy as he is going to be right now, which is likely why he is playing pretty well right now. The obvious concern is what happens when he gets into the season and gets banged up, but cross that bridge when it gets there. But as it stands right now, I think he's a top 6 defenseman on this team today.

  14. Good morning guys, thank you for your show. I've come to really appreciate all you put into this show for us. Whether I agree with you, or both of you, or not, doesn't matter. The fact that a 51 year old Pens fan who lives outside Vancouver, gets to listen to two vuhs who love and know more about the Pens, and informs me with what is happening to them is amazing because here…I don't hear much at all. So 🙏 ❤ thanks!

Now, why not give Brunicke and Kindle a shot FOR the 9 games?? They're both going back to the juniors, right? What could they possibly learn there but bad habits. At the very least if given the 9 games, with the travel, disciple, the leadership on the team, the good habits by example that they could see and apply themselves, etc it could only motivate them that much more, right? Blessings, Victor from Canada 🇨🇦
