Next, a look at Axel Sandin Pellikka’s development over the course of the preseason and when he might join Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, and Albert Johansson on the blue line. Also, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard’s impressive shot & NHL-style game, & whether we may see him with the Detroit Red Wings, joining Marco Kasper, Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane, & Lucas Raymond in the top 6.

After that, a look at Kirill Kaprizov’s new contract with the Minnesota Wild, how this shakes up the league’s benchmarks, why Steve Yzerman should be happy about the deal, & what’s next for players like Connor McDavid and Cale Makar.

  1. Late home runs given up in Cleveland feel like the gut punch that was the last Wings game in spring 2024 that let Capitals sneak past for 8th place playoff seed. Go Wings!

  2. Man I actually relate to the Zegras thing, even if it was just a throwaway comment. I lived in AZ during college and only seeing brown, rarely seeing open water, and having no variation in seasons was a bit of tough adjustment after growing up in SE Michigan and having some of the best weather of every season.

  3. So, if everything was “too expensive “ for Steve before, forget about any meaningful signings now.

  4. This is stupid, they are ready for the nhl and should come up. They are first round picks w real talent. They can learn in the NHL its time to win.

  5. 33:25 There is a guy in my league that has an exponent. Apparently, he's always been 13. They already had a 13 and told him he couldn't have it. So, he's 13…2.

  6. 44:40 I have always contended that if I were in a Crosby style scenario where I love the team and want to do the best for them as they struggle that I'd get them to sign me to one year deals and trade me at the deadline every time. Get all the first round picks. Yours is a lottery pick. The others help get more premium pulls at the slot machine. And I get to win while also helping the team I love. By the time I can't do it anymore, they should have a full cupboard for post me.

  7. Normally I'd say ASP should be playing in all situations in GR but the way he's clearly building and improving game to game through this pre-season (and considering the alternatives), I want him in the NHL.

  8. Life time Wings fan living in Wild territory. Two things: this is the 2nd time in the Wild’s history that they have paid the highest contract in the league; and Leipold has owned two NHL teams over the course of 25+ years. Under his ownership, neither team has advanced beyond the 2nd round of the playoffs. Seemingly he’s perfectly happy with having a playoff contending team. Building a Cup contending team is an entirely different matter. Finally, I question why Kaprizov would want to stay in Minnesota long-term. He was already “paid” once. At 28 years old, I thought he might have wanted the opportunity to go to a Cup contender. But maybe that’s not his thing, and money is.
