Espn2 seemed to be solid in the 90s.
Somehow a former professional baseball playing hick from Louisiana saying he won't watch hockey is news. It makes even more sense when you know he basically disappears into the backwoods right after the last pitch is thrown.
Excited about Givani. šš½
McDonald could have framed it like "I won't be watching because there's playoff baseball I'll be watching."
Baseball is in the middle of the playoffs while the NHL just finished preseason. Iām a die hard hockey fan but I agree with McDonald. This is another āpractice, weāre talking about practiceā moment that gets blown out of proportion.
12 for hutson, worth it
Who cares what Ben McDonald has to say about hockey.. I wouldn't expect someone from Louisiana to be watching & it doesn't matter..I'm betting he's never been to an NHL game..
8:08 VGK Legend Sheldon Rempal
You missed Ryker Evans out 2 months
Sports other than hockey? No there arenāt.
It still would've cost McDonald nothing to keep his mouth shut, or just give a disingenuous "sure." He doesn't have to apologize, and I don't want him to. You're right that it's not that big a deal.
I have no idea Who is Ben McDonald… Might be cousin of Ronald but I dont care about him or what he watches…
Halverson landed somewhere else, but cant remember… Baseball ppl cant take hockey seriously so Ben McDonalds comments doesnt ruin me
PS. He was a BUST
Bad take, I definitely disagree. As an employee of ESPN you shouldn't flippantly disparage another sport for the sake of a laugh or being "real".
The same commentators will shout out an advert for a gambling sites for the sake of their professionalism without a second thought. They should remain professional while watching the most boring sport on TV and keep their behavior consistent across the board.
Evan bouchards contract looking real good now. And only better as the years progress.
Playoff baseball is great. A lot of good matchups coming in (NYY @ TOR, LAD @ PHI), and I am just hoping that one of MIL, DET, or SEA end up victorious in the end.
Playoff baseball > regular season hockey
Playoff hockey > regular season baseball
I know people are upset with HOW it was delivered though, not the actual question of which one is better.
Iām not too worried about the baseball guy dissing hockey. I would say I could see his bosses being mad, but I think ESPN just buys rights for various sports, they donāt actually care about anything that isnāt football or some basketball. Iām not entirely sure they care much about baseball. I was nostalgic for the ESPN hockey song but was wondering why some people were so excited about them getting rights. Outside of the 94 playoffs, they didnāt seem to care for the sport during the first go around, and cared slightly less when they didnāt have the rights.
That being said, from what Iāve seen (since I rarely have access to a full cable package), I think they honestly do a better job now than 30 years ago. Low bar, yes, but they didnāt stumble over it.
Well he said it during an live-on-air promo for hockey… so there is that.
Swede here: Who is Ben McDonald? Ronalds brother?
Blasphemer! Baseball? Really? Boring! Hockey is the only sport and THG is the only guy.
$12,5M/7 yearsfor the fiery one in MTL, and no one will complain in french.
I read that Vancouver will have their first very own tripple header on October 9th. Vancouver Cannucks, Abbortford Canucks and Vancouvers new ladies hockey team all playing the same day. Wishing them all the best and hope we'll see a day when they all win the cup in the same year š
Disappointed but not surprised Columbus lost Hunt. They carry too many defencemen, and their forward depth in Cleveland is not deep. Should have traded someone for a forward.
It was the laughing at the thought of watching hockey that bugged me. Like the sport is below him to even suggest. He's entitled to his opinion and if he doesn't like hockey that's fine. Just say it's not my sport so I'll probably be watching baseball. But if you prefer hockey, tune in Tuesday. Be professional. Do I think the guys on TNT were tuning in to the tennis French open or next sundays NASCAR race after the Stanley Cup playoffs ended. No. But they respected those sports and the fans who liked hockey and one or both of them to be professional
If I talk about baseball for too long, I get a headache.
That could just be me. š
Schwindt Returns to Florida was part of Tkchuck For Huberdeau Weeger trade
6:50 schwindt going back to the panthers after the huby trade lol
Triple headers should be reserved for events like Hockey Day in Canada. ESPN hockey coverage is one step away from being done better by the Food Network. In a lot of American cities, NHL hockey's popularity ranks lower than high school sports. That's why you don't go back to Atlanta for the 3rd time.
The NHL needs to stop doing deals with ESPN. They never give hockey the appropriate coverage.
NBC has ALWAYS been the best network to televise the league. From back in the days with Brian McFarlane and Tim Ryan, in the mid 70's, to their recent coverage of the league. Having Mike Emrick for years doing stellar play by play, including his mix of great anecdotes of leagues that players came up through. Plus having Kathryn Tappen in the studio, who is sooo good, beats ANYTHING ESPN can conjure up.
Watching baseball you might as well be watching paint dry in my opinion soooo- thats life, people disagree.
Non issue here.
In all fairness to McDonald, those cross-sport promo's in the middle of a game are almost always annoying, and it happens all the time for regional broadcasts with NBA teams which I personally couldn't care less about. So I can't really say I blame him, especially when the way ESPN advertises the league in general is a way bigger issue.
I just find it a bit weird to have a host on a network that broadcasts both sports to ātalk downā the other sport hehe
Espn should fire him!!
Disagree on your views about ben macdonald. Ben doesnt have to apologize, but ESPN does. Since ESPN owns the rights, the company needs to educate their staff about what products/rights they have and what to avoid saying. The fact it happened shows hockey fans and hockey brass (Gary Bettman, etc) that they sold their product rights to a company that doesnt care about them. Its Bettmans job to grow the sport, and you cant do that when the conpany that owns tv rights disparages your product. In addition the fact ESPN didnt educate their announcers about it truly shows how much disdain espn has towards hockey. It is a big deal and Bettman etc. needs to review who should have their tv rights.
I really don't care what an American's view of hockey is.
I never saw the NHl as a "niche" sport
I did know the other leagues was bigger ( revenue ) not that I really care that much about that as a hockey fan.
One of my gripes about salaries going up and up and up, is that the income of the fans who go to watch the games is not going up and up and up. Especially south of the border where so many barely make a living wage
His honesty is getting him raked over the coals online lol
