Could the Predators Start Saros In Game Three?

I mentioned it last night and today the coach would not confirm who is starting game three in Nashville. Odds are that they stay with Rinne, but would it be that crazy if they made the switch?

  1. I hope Rinne gets another shot. He has been great these whole playoffs. He got them in the finals. He should get the shot to win the cup.

  2. It'll be tough for Nashville to win the series but if Rinne plays like he did in the first three rounds then why not. Only problem is he looks like his confidence is down.

  3. Pens scored on Saros as well Cullen was just barely offside. No goaltender can stop this offense by himself it's gonna come down to the defense in front of him.

  4. Laviolette was the coach that put Ward in when he was in Carolina, so it's not completely out of the blue. He's made the move before.

Granted, its the SCF, not an earlier round.

  5. I think you are a really smart guy. You know what your talking about and I'm a die hard penguins fan, but I do agree with you. Saros should go in because facts are facts. Rinne, for whatever reason, is not good against Pittsburgh. I agree. Give the rookie a chance like we did with Murray.

  6. Of course his percentages went down-there's been own goals, it hasn't always been his fault, and considering we swept Chicago, not only were we fresh but had fewer games, of course he would have a high percentage for four wins.

  7. Apparently pekka Rinne numbers have been bad his whole career against the Penguins. So a change might be a good thing.

  8. The only reason I can see rinne starting game 3 is because smashville will be rocking and even though they are down 2-0, could very realistically win 1 or both games there. A 2-0 lead in a series means nothing until you win that 4th one! Go pens!

  9. No matter who starts for the Preds it as to be the right call because Nashville is not coming back from 0-3 against Pittsburgh

  10. As a Pens fan, I really hope they start Rinne. The Pens over the last 2 seasons have made a habit of making elite looking net minders look mortal ( Holtby, Bobrovsky, Anderson, Lundqvist, Rinne ). They've gotten inside their heads, and the result has been the Pens winning series. So start Rinne in game 3. Gives us a better chance to win.

  11. Absolutely no chance they replace Rinne for game 3, which will be the loudest hockey crowd of the year in any market and which will swing momentum Nashville's way and keep the calls at bay from being the dictation and momentum controller of the game.

  12. I don't think it's the best interest for a team to change a goaltender in the middle of a series. I've seen teams play both the back-up and starting goalies throughout the playoffs and the success rate isn't that great after all, because it screws with the team chemistry. Players have to adapt to a goalie change all the time and it screws up their chemistry.

  13. Very interesting decision ahead, do you go with the inexperienced Saros who looked really good this year or Rinne who backstopped you to the final? In a must win game 3, this decision could make or break the series for the Predators!

  14. When you said the Canucks should've started Schneider in Boston instead of Luongo it put a lump in my throat :/

  15. Stick with Rinne in game 3, if he loses play Saros the rest of the series, although I doubt the series would go on much longer.

  16. Rinne always chokes. He's just doing it way later on this year. Own goals aren't an excuse for Rinne it's pretty awful goaltending at key moments…

  17. Our Matt Murray is a legend and he gets payed $550,000 per year and Pekka Rinne is also good and Pekka is payed $7M per year

  18. Love the channel Shannon. I have no one to talk hockey with in my day to day, so this fills the hockey talk hole in my life. God bless my amazing wife though, who watches all playoffs long and has no clue what's going on. Are there any plans to expand your show into a podcast as well?

  19. You can't start saros. You gotta ride Pekka. It's either he gets it together or this is his last series being the starting goalie. But you gotta ride him. He's been their goalie for over a decade. He's got them here and that's a bad message to Pekka to sit him like that

  20. This might be their one and only chance at a Cup,if they go down 3-0,its over.I think they need to make the move.Loyalty is out the window at this point.

  21. hey Hockey Guy, i know you get alot of questions and you're a busy guy but i really wanted to ask u your opinion on Roberto Luongo's performance in the SC versus the Bruins? my memory seems to think he had 2 shutouts…..

  22. Okay, bear with me on this. So, I think I have an explanation as to why Pekka Rinne is playing as bad as he is in the Stanley Cup Final. While his save percentage has been decreasing as the playoffs went on, it had previously been noted as one of the best in the playoffs. However, if you look at his save percentage for this series against the Pens, it is atrocious, and I have a reason why: Nashville's defense is so good, it's bad, at least for Rinne. Allow me to explain. Rinne is a goaltender that thrives off of shots. The more shots, the better he is, and thus, the better his save percentage is. Because of this, when he goes long periods of time without facing a shot, he becomes cold and not as sharp as he would be with the latter. The best way to show this is through the numbers. In game 1, the Pens went 37:09, game time, without a single shot on goal. This slowly allowed the Preds to recover from the 0-3 deficit they had been dealt from the first period. Once the game was tied, the Pens reacted, and the first shot on goal, in 37 minutes, was the game-winning goal by Guentzel. Nashville's defense had done such an exceptional job at preventing the Pens from creating shots on goal, that they essentially iced their own goalie. We see this again in game 2. At one point, the Pens went 9 minutes without a shot on goal, I believe during the second period. Again, Nashville's defense was doing a great job at preventing Pittsburgh's offense from really doing anything. However, at the start of the third period, after going through a period where the Pens didn't really do much offensively, got chased out after the Pens scored three goals in the first 3.5 minutes of the third period. In conclusion, Nashville's defense is so great, it's bad, but for Rinne.
