  1. Legit question here: who do we have as a center on this current roster other than ROR and Svech that would be a better option than Martin?

  2. The OTHER thing that keeps being overlooked with Brady Martin's development [and why I would keep him for the ENTIRE year] is where would he improve? Will he improve running roughshod over the JR competition where he has nothing more to prove or would he improve more in the NHL? Forget the 'burning' of one year on the rookie contract as if he is who you think he is he will develop and you will pay him accordingly. AND the argument for keeping Matthew Wood is similar except that you HAVE an OPTION of sending him to Milwaukee where he would competing with players at a higher level than juniors.

  3. Let's do the math. 28 spots, Evangelista not signed, Hague out for 5 more weeks. This means 3 players will be cut: Blankenburg, Molendyk and Martin make the most sense. Molendyk missed a couple of crucial training camp weeks and could use some time in Milwaukee to start the year, but will likely make his NHL debut before Christmas. Blankenburg is a fine skater but lacks size, will be edged out by Stastney for a spot on the team as an extra Defenceman. Martin has been impressive in camp, but is still just 18 and could benefit from one more year of junior. The starting roster:

    Forsberg/O'Reilly/*Wood
    Stamkos/Svechkov/*Kemell
    L'Heureux/Haula/Marchessault
    Smith/McCarron/Bunting
    Josi/Wilsby
    Skjei/Perbix
    Englund/Barron

    Saros
    Annunen

    extras: Stastney, Wiesblatt, *Schaefer

This means 3 former first round picks will make the team, and two of them (Wood, Kemell) will start on opening night as the Preds figure out what to do with Luke Evangelista.
