  1. Pac's and Therrien were the reason PK was traded….Pac's was cancer in the locker room, therrien when he was with rds said if he was the coach he would not have PK on his team..he got to b coach and PK was gone…

  2. When he came to vegas i was sad we gave up Suzuki but the potential he showed and how good he looked in the playoffs gave me hope. Those injuries were too much though. Would of liked to see him do better in toronto at least…

  3. I really like the guy and wish him nothing but the best in retirement. I do hope the Habs bring him back for a special night. He was a captain of the team.

  4. I still have his Reebok era Montreal jersey with the C patch hanging in my closet.

Started as one of my favourite Habs and I was frustrated with his trade initially.

Felt much better about his departure after learning the truth about him…Subban never should have been traded!

I don’t wish him ill though and I still wish him a happy retirement.

  5. Patches was a good player not a great leader. Making him captain put him in a position to fail in Montreal.

  6. I hope patches has a good retirement, grew up with him as one of my favorite players and I enjoyed following his career after his time in MTL like with Subban.

  7. One severely underestimated aspect of the Patch/Suzuki trade is that Tatar was no slouch for Montreal, 58 and 61 pts his first two seasons and a respectable 30 points in 50 his last one.

Sadly, he’s one hell of a cursed player come playoff time and that’s all most people remember him for … and that ridiculous +- switch when he played for the Devils from -22 to +41 in 2 seasons somehow which wasn’t the first time he did that back in 17-18 he was a combined -19 in Detroit/Vegas and +21 the following year in Montreal.

  8. Thank the Hockey Gods he didn’t become another Bill Masterton after that Chara hit, that’s why we have helmets

  9. he will be remember in Montreal for the headshot he received from Chara. the guy broke his neck and no penalty on the play.

  10. Saying hes the worst captain of the canadiens is like saying someone is the worst player who played 750 games in the nhl.

Like yeah ok someone has to be bottom of that list but being on it by definition means you were pretty good

  11. He’s from the next town over from where I grew up and skated at the local ice rink that me and my brothers played on. Always cheered for him for that reason.

  12. As a Sharks fans I have mixed feelings on Max Pac. He was a good player but he would play dirty sometimes. Since he would not fight either it made that even worse. It was never shocking when anyone hit him. With that being said he seemed well liked by teammates in general. I feel bad for him and Ryan Reaves and MAF that none were on the knights championship team.

  13. This is almost certainly premature career video. Neither the guy himself or his very vocal agent (Allan Walsh) have mentioned anything about Max retiring, just a random Twitter reporter. I think there is probably a >75% chance he signs with a playoff bound team midway through the season or even closer to the trade deadline. Allan Walsh on his podcast says he thinks this will become the norm among vets in the NHL soon enough as there really isn't any need to go through training camps and slog through all 82 games. Allan's always careful to never mention names but you can pretty easily connect the dots that this would apply to Patches.

  14. I thought for sure Patches was dead after that hit by Chara. Thankfully that didn't happen and he went on to have a good career.

  15. being a edmonton fan it was still nice to see him do well in the playoffs, always want the best for the respectful vets. At least I do lol

  16. A very good player that shouldn't have been named Captain. He lacked proper leadership and should have concentrated on hockey which he was very good at. Then again the players that retired as Captains in Montreal are rare.

  17. He was never a real captain in Montreal, he was just the best player available! Just a solid player, nothing more, nothing less.

  18. Love Pacioretty, if he ever decides to return, there will be teams calling, he is still a serviceable depth forward and playoff depth replacement at minimum. Probably a good locker room healthy scratch too.

  19. Just to play devils advocate… While it is logical to say Vegas “lost” the trade with Montreal, and Detroit, one could also argue that, in the bigger picture, Vegas “won” those moves, as they are the only team of the 3 with playoff success, including two Final appearances, and one Cup.

  20. His longest tenured center partner was David Desharnais in Montreal. He was the one and only sniper they had and had all the expectations to get the goals to support a generational goalie. And he had to be a Captain for a Michel Therrien team. For whatever reason they refuse to play him with Galchenyuk for longer than a few weeks.

  21. Any true fan of the game has to respect Patches. Thank you THG for this very timely video, I love to see "career videos" of any player who retires after a respectable NHL career, no matter what their odds are for the HoF.

  22. I always felt like the issue with Patches was that Montreal’s entire offence was built around him. I think he would have been a great piece to another star player, like what Caufield is to Suzuki or Conner to Schiffelle. His points improved a lot in Vegas when he wasn’t “the guy” on offence anymore.
