OK Guys, in today’s video I decided to take a look at the current roster of the Montreal Canadiens.. And share my opinions on which players I feel should be cut. Oliver Kapanen and Florian Xhekaj have both had an unbelievable pre-season and training camp. They’re right at the top of the food chain right now in terms of Habs prospects.. and I honestly feel like it’s difficult to let these guys go back to Laval right now given what they’ve shown so far..

I should have clarified. I wasn't necessarily thinking about a lineup but more as a roster. 23 man roster, 7 defensemen, 14 forwards, 2 goaltenders. If Bolduc is out at the beginning of the regular season, than I'd be ok with Xhekaj getting a spot in the lineup for sure.
However if the lineup is completely healthy, and he's considered a 13th/14th forward, I'd prefer him to get top minutes in the AHL to help develop his game!
Cheers!!
veleno kapanen in advance
I like your take on Flo, but I think he might be better served for him and Montreal to spend time and 20 min a night in Laval. V
Call him up if and when needed.
This team needs Florian but I think his potential can be higher! the number of goals he had last year in Laval outside top 6 line with zero PP presence was his statement… I think he can become the go-to third line power forward (or maybe even 2nd line)… thus he needs to play more than he would be here being a strict tough guy… so off to Laval for him… I believe Veleno will make the line up and Blais will be watching from the stands… It also doesn't mean he won't make lots of trips to Montreal this year because of injuries.
Great vid bro i m on the same mind set
rebuild over, plan parade
serious though, we seem to only have good problems atm, this is a great time to be a habs fan.
Cob Dubs? Usually on board with your nicknames.
I agree
My heart wants Florian in the lineup, but my head says he needs a little more time in the A.
I love Dobes!
sammy stays
owen beck might be 5'9, but he plays like he is 5'10 and a half.
FX goes down to develop doesn't need to clear waivers. Blais doesn't have to develop but he has to clear waivers, and that's not entirely set in stone. Next year X2 makes the 12.
During the playoff round last year Washington tried to beat up the Habs. That cannot happen again this year. We need the brothers.
I want FLO up with the big club so bad… but I also want him to play 18-20 minutes a night. Maybe there's a Tom Wilson in this kid.
Even if we send Florian back to laval I’d love to see him on the opening night game for the hype and to get him buzzing to play in the chel
Cut Blais and Beck.
Let Flo develop more in the A and occasional mid to late season call ups for fourth line minutes against soft perimeter teams like the leafs !
Nope. Flojack needs 1 more year in Ahl to work on his offense in a top six role. He has very little pros experience. He will go down, and Veleno Blais will be the extra two forards. Habs will likely carry 14 forwards on the road.
Flo-jack fo sho!,
I'll be far happier seeing Florian playing 2nd line minutes in AHL rather than 4th line minutes in the NHL. I want to see him developing, not stagnating. I love the kid and want to see him as a Hab for many years to come. 😊😊❤❤😊😊
I believe Florian is staying up.. he has nothing more to prove in laval. What you see is what you get.. we need him more than we need arber..
100% agree with all your cuts HJ. We'll see Monday morning. Tanks.
I had a friend who's a Sens fan text me after that last game after that Florian Xhekaj fight and the text read " There's fucking two of them now?!?!? "
Give Flo 9 games in the NHL but he has to go down to continue improving.
Great minds think alike. I had the exact same cuts and keeps
I already love Flo Jack but I think he needs another season in the AHL.. As well.. Veleno has earned a spot IMO..
you're a Xhekaj fan guy
No harm in giving Florian a few games to start the season, gives the coaching staff and most importantly Florian, a chance to see how he pairs up against actual nhl lineups and what he needs to work on in laval
Even if Florian starts the year in Laval, I think we will reach a point when we need another enforcer to survive the season. Arbor and Struble don't normally play on the same night, and even though Anderson can fight, it has not been a big part of his game.
I have the exact same roster in mind. Let Florian begin in MTL, let’s reassess after 5-10 games. Worst case scenario you call up Beck if you send him down.
If beck has to be sent back, then you call up Blais and have him look on the side.
Veleno could also play regular I wouldn’t mind. He’s honest and effective so far.
If he is going to pair with Kapanen and Demidov, then keep him with the Habs. Otherwise FX needs to go play big minutes in the AHL. I think Marty liked the look of those two with Newhookso Flo has gotta go… he'll be back later this year and I think he'll be with us for the playoffs if we make it.
This Bs fan is very excited about the Has this season.
Were you eavesdropping on my conversation at the bar today??? You must have bee…
Sorry Junkie, but the weakest link in the goaltending department will be starting for us on opening night.
His body language has got ' ready-to-lose ' written all over it.
I agree, but part of me feel like Florian can develop with more ice time in the AHL. But it hurts me to send him down.
Any chance of a Fix podcast before the season starts?
Flo is a life long Ahler, we don't need more grit we need skill
Beck just doesn't seem hungry enough. Not sold on Kapanen either. Some neutral-zone turnovers I didn't like. I think Florian won a spot. 200ft game. Decent on the dot. And of course, big, tough and a glue guy like his bro. JMHO!
If Flo can add some speed he’s gonna be great in the bottom 6.
This is a bit off the cut topic for starters, but Matt! No comment on Yanik's reach around on Struble at 2:09? I at least expect a cup check or did they exchange phone numbers joke. lol Maybe i'm wrong but that sure looks like a hand where no hand should be. Now for cuts, I really like Florian but I think I agree with the argument that he should get some high profile time in Laval. I hope we can still see him with Arber on opening night at Centre Bell before being sent to Laval. It's a really tough call between Beck and Kapanen. I guess I'll have to ask the magic eight ball for the answer to that one.
I'm pretty much on the same page. Not pretty much. Completely.
A roster with both Blackeyes and a Struble would give Anderson a LOT of relief in the event security department, no doubt. But it's much, MUCH more than that! It's pretty much changes the complexion of this team a TON from last year. When we look at offence, we have SC1, who is still running up the score, and should have an even better year. Then we have DEMIDOV. What this kid has flashed so far is giving me goosebumps for a possible 100-point MTL Canadien! Not THIS season, but in the near future. I just hope he's paired properly. I had high hopes LAINE would be playing some better 5v5 and filling up the net with DEMI getting him the puck whenever he damn well pleased. But it looks like that line might not happen. But I'm pretty confident whatever it is should produce good results.
And the defence is set up to produce some offence this year also. Hutson's second year will hopefully be an even BETTER one if that's possible.
SO, what I'm looking forward to with Jackeyes and Struble is MTL being a team everyone HATES playing against.
FOR the FIRST TIME in a LONG TIME!!! I LOVE this scenario!!
I dont remember the last time i was excited like that for the habs
