One Big Question: Will Oilers be able to convince McDavid to stay?

The Oilers are coming off a tremendous season, but also, another Stanley Cup heartbreak. The only real question in Edmonton at the moment is, will the team be able to convince Connor McDavid to stay? TSN Hockey analyst Mike Johnson and TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button discuss the One Big Question facing the Oilers this season.

  1. He'll stay out of guilt. How are the Oilers one of the best TEAMs? They have the best player ever and a top 5 forward. They have a weak d-core and no goaltending let alone a weak bottom 6. No depth…

  2. Trade him and get a king's ransom. He's shown himself to be a terrible character, deliberately handicapping the team. The thought of him getting 18-20 million is disgusting. 50+ million on four players, two of whom are mediocre.

  3. If he leaves he’s taking the easy way out. Would remind me of LeBron leaving Cleveland. Win a championship then if you wanna leave then leave. However look at Crosby live and die a penguin. Depends how McDavid wants to be known for.

  4. It’s important to realize Mcdavid elevates players on his line. I dont think thats the problem. He can play with anyone. It’s those depth players on the 3rd and fourth lines you need to win a Cup. They dont have it. They dont have a bottom 6 either. This isnt just goaltending.

  5. I always start the TSN videos cause they are interesting, however as soon as I see Craig's face I stop the video as he is 1) clueless about the Oilers and 2) non-sensically hating the Oilers. Bye!

  6. MLB doesn't have the salary cap like NHL, it is not the same type of environment for free agents, the Dodgers could spend as much money as they want to support the star players with other good players, Oilers, Maple Leafs can't because of the salary cap, even if the NHL cap goes up. Trust me the Oilers would have already had a good supporting cast including goaltending if there was no salary cap

  7. Plz darnell nurse for us lifelong die hard oilers fans plz ask for a trade and accept a trade so we can get that cup we so deservingly need

  8. If he's leaving Edmonton, New Jersey makes the most sense to me if he wants to win for the foreseeable future.

  9. If McDavid wants to win a cup he knows he can't win one playing for a Canadian Team – Bettman 31-Canada ZERO. Not a conspiracy. Not a coincidence that no two Canadian teams ever met in the finals since he hijacked the league in 94. He rigs the finals through the crooked officiating with the blatant noncalls against the US team and the excessive calls against the Canadian team. He has been doing it since 94 – the first victim was Vancouver.

  10. McDavid should leave before he starts regressing like The Oilers are going to this year. Similar to the Sharks who were always close it just isn't going to work in Edmonton. He'll have his choice of any team he wants. Besides who wants to play for a team with a GM that supports sexual assault.

  11. An absolute joke we still haven’t gotten a competent goaltender. Remember when Holland passed on drafting Wallstedt so that they could pick Xavier Bourgault because he didn’t believe in spending a first on a goalie? Wallstedt could’ve very well been their number 1 goalie by now!

  12. There was supposed to be a podcast filmed in the HoF room at Ice District on Monday. It got moved to Tuesday because OEG said that the room is busy on Monday morning now.

  13. Oilers beat ANYONE in their way in the West and have more success than 31 teams in the NHL for 2 years straight. And TSN acts like they are the worst team ever that still needs to "prove" they can compete.

TSN also shat on the Oilers bottom 6 and defence for YEARS, and yet every single year this Bottom 6 and defence out plays the apparently much deeper bottom 6s of Van, VGK, Dallas etc etc.

  14. Us hockey fans just know, No!!! The Oilers dont have enough defense and special teams when it counts. McDavid is tired of the choking in the playoffs. He's gone!!
