Predators Roster BATTLES Continue in Camp | Will Zach L’Heureux SECURE a Spot Before Opening Night?

What looked like a fairly straightforward training camp for the Nashville Predators has become a preseason of roster battles.

Several prospects arrived at Predators training camp ready to compete for their NHL opportunity. On today’s show we talk about how players like Cole O’Hara are pushing NHL experienced players like Zachary L’Heureux to compete for an opening night roster spot. Ann Kimmel of Penalty Box Radio and Emma Lingan from The Hockey News recap this weekend’s back to back preseason games with “one word” to describe the games and discuss what is and isn’t clear about Nashville’s roster with injuries to players like Nic Hague and Matthew Wood and the absence of Luke Evangelista.

The show wraps up with a look at Marc Andre Fleury’s return to the Pittsburgh Penguins this weekend and sharing which retired NHL player fans in Nashville would most like to see play one more time.

  1. My biggest concern is that Brunette isn't putting the best line combinations out there. The team's biggest weakness is at C, so why on earth was he experimenting with Brady Martin as a RW with O'reilly? I liked what I saw of Martin at C with Wood and Forsberg. With Wood out, why not try a physical winger with scoring potential like Kemell or even L'Heureux with either Martin or O'reilly? Then there's Svechkov. He too needs talented wingers to play with. I"m not sure if this was tried, but why not Svechkov with Marchessault or even Forsberg. I did like seeing Kemell killing penalties, as he does have good defensive awareness, but I'm worried that Brunette is going to bury young players on the 4th line, stunting their development. EDIT: Haula with Bunting and Marchessault could be OK as a 3rd line, assuming Martin gets sent back to junior.
This is what I want to see for Saturday's final exhibiiton game:
    Forsberg/Martin/Wood
    Stamkos/Svechkov/Kemell
    Bunting/O'Reilly/L'Heureux
    Smith/Haula/Marchessault

  3. I do wanna see more from ZLH, but last year, Bruno did him no favors. He’s also gonna have some stiff competition with Kimmel and Wood. Definitely rooting for him.
