Maybe a bit of an overreaction by the official but the NHL is really trying to crack down on head contact..even if the recipient of the contact lowers his head intentionally..the helmet coming off WAS the key in this case..when I played my helmet was on good and tight..but some players admittedly wear them looser..I agree with you ..they should mandate that helmets must be snuggly secured for safety
This highlights how stupid it is for any penalty to be based on the result of the action rather than the action itself. He should wear his helmet properly. I have hard time seeing this being called in any situation where helmet didn't come off.
