I want jets get aggressive and do shopping early. Alot of teams will be looking closer to deadline for players or Tkachuk/Barkov out florida.
This Samberg injury sucks but does allow Heinola/Stanley stay on team a little longer no waivers. Or Salmonsson get NHL games.
Now that it seems Connor will resign its time go all in next 2yrs.
Unlike years prior I like almost every position on jets this year would I like to see young guys get time call ups yes but no claring holes.
If you put even last years team or this years position by position compared to other teams jets stack up one of best in league most teams have better stars but no where near depth.
Only moves I'd consider making sooner than later is either do a big trade get
BraydenSchenn,Kadri for 2C push guys down more proper like a returning injury Lowry and older Toews.
Or a middle 6 center like a Pageau,Zacha,RyanStrome,Schwartz.
I think Kadri would come here but StLouis wouldn't trade Schenn because in Central and kind of rival. Other big names just wouldn't waive to come here.
For me Zacha makes most sense Boston isn't a playoff team he is 28yrs old makes 4.7m for this year and next not just a rental. Allows a mix of Vlad,Zacha,Toews,Lowry be mixed at Center.

Schenn fights,Hits played wheat kings would play with brother makes 6.6m for like 4yrs. Kadri makes 7m kind of alot but cap is rising 4yrs. Since getting guys is difficult for Wpg getting a guy with term makes more sense than trading a 1st for Pageau or UFA rental. Plus we don't know how long or good Toews Lowry even Scheifele will be good for.
Perfect situation idc if we have to overpay is a guy signed who can share burden/take over Scheifele if he regressed to more of 2C. They just arnt out there Barzal is 28yrs old signed til 34 at 9.15m could be a guy for help now and move to 1C and Scheifele to 2C as he gets older like 34/36yrs old. FlamesNation brought up how hard it is get a 1# Center unless you finish low in draft. There's alot of 2s/3s but #1 hard to come by. If anyone has a young one who needs a change or contract issues like McTavish just signed jets should keep an eye out since even Yager I don't project be a #1 more of 2C.
I think last year jets had better team than Edmonton and Dallas the issue is after our 1st line yes we have more depth. But can't match star for star Rantenen/McDavid/Draisaitl can take over games and if you can shut our 1 line down/depth doesn't contribute we can't win. Now this year I'm not scared of Colorado but having another line driver would give jets another look.
3 other notable players I don't see Jets getting but have been talked about in Barkov fill ins are Coyle/Jenner/Malkin in Florida.
* the Connor situation is the point though if we go all in or not if he doesn't sign by deadline. Or wants 12-14m then it changes everything. We then would have lost Ehlers and Connor and would look more at retooling getting younger.
Comps for me about Connor are Robertson/Reinhart/Guentzel. I personally don't think he drives lines like Nylander in Toronto/Kaprizov/Panarin do he needs Scheifele I don't think Scheifele needs him. To be successful. I'm not opposed to getting younger. I do get the fear as well you don't want Connor be like a Huberdeau/Heatley/Yashin in years past or Elias Pettersson and handicap team. How the Suter/Parise/Kovalchuk ended up.
I know fans don't get business of jets but as cap goes up teams like Toronto,NY ect will throw money around not care about buying guys out while the Wheeler/Schmidt buyouts hurt the jets they can't afford bonuses/internal cap. Yes it be nice just say pay the guys. But I said before Thompson is rich but isn't into losing money Chipman can't afford team on his own and needs to manage money/contracts. Dreger who has contacts in Vegas and Jets said publicly TSN jets can't give out money like that. Also it could be the cap in the middle of contract prime years sticking point just say 1st and last 2yrs of a Connor contract are 12m but in the middle years 3-6 he wants 13-14m. I've said I'd take a younger player over max money for jets if it's a Kasper+1st
Guys like Fantilli/KentJohnson types I'd take. But again depends on Connor.
As for prospects Yager,Salmonsson are untouchable if a trade looked like
Kadri= Lambert+pick
Barzal=1st+Lambert+Chibrikov+2nd
Schenn= Lambert/Chibrikov+pick
Even guys like Barlow,Freijs,Bomediene but only on if Connor signs.
