Gaudette had 12 goals 33 points last year. So just like Pearson you expect him to bounce back right? You use his down year as leverage for a new deal come RFA right? No, you trade him for nothing. I don't get it. Unless he really is the one to give covid to everyone on the team and they are all mad at him.
Mete is undersized to play in this league and the Habs pieces coming in behind him.

Taylor Hall confirmed he wanted to go to Boston, and his NMC helped make that happen. So all the bashing that Kevyn Adams was fleeced by Boston should just stop. Clearly this was where Hall was going to go, and that's the most Boston was willing to give up. Buffalo had to get something for Hall, and they got the best they could.

I disagree about gaudette trade I agree he’s not having good season but he still has decent potential and u can’t simply dump a asset for basically no return this doesn’t help us in any way at all should of gotten a pick or something too
I have no faith in this team’s direction under Benning he keeps signing bad contracts and not getting any returns on pieces he gives up or he holds on too them and losses them for nothing in off season. We need a GM that can think outside of box look at returns other teams have gotten even draft pick wise and absolutely garbage cap management is cherry on top

So glad Dubas didn't go after Hall. I'd say the fan base is more relieved than upset. The ones that are upset are the same type that scream Reilly is a forward and trade Nylander for a 4th line grinder.
As for Gaudette. If they were worried he was going to get claimed. Why not keep him and let him get claimed? Now Seattle will probably take a better guy than what they got in return in the trade.

My issue is Gaudette is better than and has a bit more upside than Highmore… If there was any pick (even a 7th) It feels like Vancouver is just pushing this trade just to make a trade… I'd rather just lose him to Seattle than for ANOTHER bottom 6 forward… Yes I am aware that Gaudette is a bottom 6 but Highmore. I'm just confused on what value Vancouver gets here

I mean yeah Gaudette is struggling but he was on pace for like over 40 points the season prior to this one and he gets chances he's just so cold they aren't going in. Won't be surprised if he does well in Chicago.

Honestly, I'm meh on the Gaudette trade. Ain't worth burning anyone on the stake.
As a Canucks fan I like this trade for Vancouver. Why, Well Highmore can be a great bottom 6 opinion for the future and Gaudette very likely wasn’t gonna stay in Vancouver going into next season anyway so you might as well get something for him rather than losing him for nothing.
Seattle can only grab one person, if they had taken Gaudette we would be better off because then we wouldn't lose someone else. (with the assumption that they don't want gauds). People talking about seattle often just make no sense to me.
I think the issue with Gaudette was that he was never going to score at a top-six pace and he was never going to play defense at a bottom-six level. He was a weird, nebulous player for us who didn't really fit anywhere. Even if you want that third line to start scoring more, having Gaudette down there is going to seriously affect that line's ability to backcheck and play good defense. I don't really blame Benning for seeing Gaudette off and I wish Gaudette well in Chicago. He still has plenty of potential but the fit was just awkward in Vancouver. Should have gotten more from him, though. Maybe a pick? Even a fourth? Oh well. Not a huge loss.
I am totally winning GM of the year. Here are my accomplishments
– Traded Gaudette for a minor leaguer who is a "team guy"
– Resigned pearson for 250k less than he wanted
– Let 6th in goals Toffoli walk for cap space I had (if he is so good… be top 5)
– claimed not one… but TWO players from the Leafs
– Traded a 4th for a guy on waivers last week and a 5th. 5 is higher than 4. Thank me later.
I hope my team, the Oilers, try and sign Ullmark in the offseason.
Or there's always trade possibilities for Korpisalo or Merzlikens in CBJ
