The Anaheim Ducks got their 1st preseason win with a 6–1 win over the Utah Mammoth, and yes, that means the Cup is coming back to Anaheim (if only it worked that way 😅). Under new head coach Joel Quenneville, the Ducks rolled out a sharper hybrid defensive zone system that featured more pressure at the red line, cleaner breakouts, and a stronger penalty kill. Defensemen Drew Helleson and Jackson LaCombe led the way on the blue line, while Mikael Granlund showed off his speed and vision and Matthew Phillips stole the show with two goals. Troy Terry added his usual playmaking flair, Ryan Strome continued to frustrate by missing open nets, and Leo Carlsson and Beckette Sennecke all had moments that stood out. Even without Mason McTavish in the lineup as his contract situation with GM Pat Verbeek drags on, Anaheim Ducks fans got a fun glimpse of what this team might become as the 2024–25 NHL season gets closer. #nhl #anaheimducks #utahmammoth #hockey

I still think they should sign 23# very soon
I was there and Grandlund looked GOOD
Exciting game. Gonna be a very interesting season especially with the Defense, we kinda got a logjam again.
Last offseason, if you told me that Helleson might be on the top pairing with LaCombe. I would have called you a bunch of not nice things and ask what you were smoking.
Mrazek is a phenomenal goalie who stood on his for Chicago! He is used to 44 shots against him every night and that can be a lot for a goalie every night … go back and watch highlights of Mrazek … he’s way underrated and underpaid … he Strives off of chaotic situations and ii would take him any day of the week over Gibson &&& ii Like Gibby!!!
The ducks have like 9 top 4 defensemen
Verbeek just needs to pay McTavish…this is ridiculous
I was very happy watching this game, i believe we can make the playoffs! I believe!!
Strome is always in the right place for rebounds that he just can’t put in the net
I know a bunch is and has been said about LaCombe but honestly, he is truly becoming an elite player.
Nice catch there with the Dylan Strome graphic! Happy to see our favorite Ducks reporter-youtuber already in mid-season form! 👍
Hey K, you mentioned Beckett isn't eligible to play in AHL, why??
Putting up 6 goals without Gauthier or McTavish in the lineup is very encouraging!
I know it's preseason but the ducks actually looked good. The new veterans seem to be comfortable on their lines, and there were some young guys that really stuck out.
Phillips!!!!
Thank you for the summary I lack the willpower to force myself to watch preseason hockey
thank you youtube algorithm for putting your videos in my feed!
Refreshing change of pace.
B.S. looked good handling the puck
#60 had two fights that night too!
Well your new coach is a hockey legend outside of him being dumb and not speaking up when his young players were being r worded 13 years ago. The ducks will be much better this year
lol, yeah didn’t even know Krieder was playing until that play
Can we take a moment to recognize how amazing it was to watch hockey without being interrupted every 20 seconds by sports betting and by digital advertisements on the boards
Peter M
Had good energy, and he was constantly chatting with his teammates and encouraging them, which was interesting to see.
Great review.. SENECA making this team would be bad…Kings will be interesting
When pressured you can see they’re learning new systems. 6 glimpses of what’s to come. I will say I have not seen this team pressuring at the blue line in a long time. I’m excited to see the growth and progress that will come this year. Next year we’re gonna be talked about
