I think Cowan being on the fourth line to start his NHL career is only going to benefit himself and the team. Learning both sides of forward positions, defensive and offensive is only going to build him into a solid two way player who can move up and down the lineup and understand the specific dynamics of all positions.
I think this is the very best outcome for this young promising future star player.

Trade Robertson, hang on to Jarnkrok and Kampf until the trade deadline.
If Cowan is to start with the Leafs, he will play up to 9 games (unless he impresses by a lot) and then be sent down so that he does not burn a year of the entry level contract. It will serve him better long term to play minutes in the top two lines in the AHL rather than minimal minutes in the fourth line. It'll be asking for too much from him to be in the top 6 for the Leafs.
Keep Cowan, trade the whole 5th line.
Nobody is trading for Kampf or Jankrok. They tried all summer LMAO 😅
Jarnkrok and Kampf could be placed on waivers, and losing either in order to free up cap space would be entirely reasonable.
i think Cowan will get a few NHL games, not enought to burn a year on his entry level deal, but enough to increase his desire to play in the NHL. He has looked good so far in the very small sample at NHL pre season games…….
i really hope Cowan starts opening night with the Leafs – jarnkrok – kampf on waivers trade robertson, too many gaffs in his own zone.
It isnt surprizing whats happening with Cowan. Theyre high on him. They want to integrate him into the culture a bit. What will happen is he will go on their trip , he will end up playing 8 games or so. Just before his ELC kicks in they will send him down to not burn a year. Same thin they did with the guy they sent to the Bruins.
Package Robertson and Kampf together and trade for a draft pick to open up some more cap space for a trade a little later.
