Not really following your argument about giving Nurse PP time just for padding his points (unless your trying to max his trade value for deadline or next off-season?). Cause you can give that opportunity to higher ceiling players who will actually capitalize on PP more effectively and thus win us more games than having an avg player taking that spot. That said, Nurse can have flashes of greatness and has a way of floating wristers or slow slappies into the net at clutch times (see playoffs – and also his preseason goals so far) so not necessarily saying he shouldn't get the chance. And I've liked his defensive play in preseason so far he's certainly earned his place in the lineup just has that contract that you love to hate; he'd be an excellent bottom-4 Dman if his contract was half the amount.
While we're nitpicking PP Dmen – Bouchard is perhaps equally as guilty and current example of a player getting padded PP points for no good reason. Yeah we all know he has the Bouch-Bomb but how often do we see it ? Like once every 3 games? He is either gun-shy or cannot effectively position himself for the bombs we desperately need; he gets so many feeds from Connor and the like but he just dishes it back 97.5% of the time… so what is all that money for. Knobs and management should work on that with him or get another player into that spot who will actually make good on one-timers and more bombs than the Bouch is willing to light. It's OK to blast the crap out of opposing player's shinpads sometimes – strike fear into them so they open lanes for you on the next one!
Peak nurse is a 40-50 point top 2 defensemen. Not a 1, but people need to be realistic when you look at the league. McDavid has been far more of a no show in the cup final series. There, I said it
