Who is IN and Who is Out…So far

The Boston Bruins have made some moves after two games in the preseason, and head coach Marco Sturm says he is happy to be practicing with his “NHL guys”.

I review who is left before any cuts are made and provide my predictions on who will make the Boston Bruins roster.

  1. Another great video. Thanks. Some of my own thoughts after watching the first 2 preseason games…. 1) Minten played very well and will be hard to keep off the roster if he continues to shine. 2) Eyssimont was a bit of a revelation especially in Game 2 against the Rangers. He could be a real offensive spark plug on the 3rd or 4th lines. He, Kastelic and Jeannot could be an effective 4th line if Jeannot can get his scoring touch back. 3) I thought Mittelstadt played well against the Rangers and maybe we shouldn't write him off too soon. 4) Blumel played very well I thought and should definitely put a little oomph in the Bruins' offense this year. We'll see. 5) Fabian Lysell … I keep waiting for him to show consistency in his game that would warrant him a full time roster spot on the squad. He needs, I think, to show a bit more aggressive desperation in his game if he wants to EARN a roster spot. There are times you can see how talented he is but these don't occur often enough. Someone needs to light a fire under him or his days could be numbered. 6) Absolutely, Swayman should get a start and hopefully he shakes off the rust that settled on him last season. 7) I think the B's are a bubble team who will just miss out on the playoffs. But again, we'll see.

  2. disappointed to see potsy and lysell not doing much. maybe they just arent nhl guys but still young so who knows

  3. There’s no way in hell Jeannot plays on the 4th line with that contract. Thats just the reality.
He’s “the coaches/trainers/managers kid” we all played with growing up. Politics.

  4. Great take as always – heres mine:
    Geekie – Elias – Pasta
    Zacha – Middelstadt – Blumel
    Jeanott – Minten – Arvidsson
    Eyssimont – Kuraly – Kastellic
    Z – Mac
    Hampus – Peeke
    Lohrei – Joki
    Xtras – Harris – Soderstrom – Khuzy
    Poitras to Prov
2 veteran wings take some pressure off of Minten
Limit Lohrei's minutes BUT let him be your PP "specialist"/QB
Pray Sway rebounds 'cuz if he doesnt were toast
    ….
Looking forward to your looking into the Merkulov situation – something stinks to me re: our 30+ years of "avoiding" the Russian talent pool

  5. If only we had a good goalie tandem???
    Oh, well, spilt milk.

Now, how do we move forward? It pains me to say, Korpi is about the only viable option. DiPietro looked even more shaky. Simon Zajicek? he's going to need to prove himself, a bit more.

  6. I told you Blumel is really good the first time you made a video that said he was signed :DD. I know that guy.

    P.S.
Can you try to swap R and J in your JokihaRJu pronunciation? :DD You say JokihaJRu.

  7. So predictable, Lysell, Poitras and Minten won't make the team cuz they are waiver exempt. Our 3rd line will be Jeannot Kuraly and Beecher. Brutal.

  8. I'll make final assessments on the marginal players when Pasta and Swayman are on ice, as they're going to change the chemistry.

Particularly at the defensive end- there's invisible chemistry and statistics involved in those pairings

who's going to have the right vibe or ESP to work with Swayman?

Pasta changes all energy within the building.

Matt is an enigma. That's the one player I can feel wants to play Boston NHL ice. Constantly seeps out of his aura.

I see the reality but I am pulling for this kid like no other player right now.

perhaps when they're playing real physical NHL hockey, our enforcers can help him out?
    🤷

I want him in black and gold in Boston..

Yeah court, you were on it with Minten 🧤 was impressed when I looked into him at your prompting,

Then I realized he just turned 21 this summer?!

And shout out to Dom- he got me onto Blümel

I couldn't watch the last game cuz it was on nhl, but I was listening to the game while looking at his info on these prospects,

    You guys should team up!

    This was a great video

Was just about to go to work when this came on…
better get going before my boss finds out.

    Go B's!
    🐻

  9. Agree all around on your takes. For me last season while I liked Johnny Beecher at times, I thought having him on the big club was one of the signs that we weren't a playoff team. He needs a season in Providence. Same with the likes of Wotherspoon. Like, no playoff team has these guys in their lineup.
My attempt at a starting roster would be:
    Geekie – E Lindholm – Pasta
Zacha/Middlestaed (two centres who both shoot Left unfortunately) – Blumel (also shoots left)
    Arvidson – Minten – Jeannot
    Eyssimont – Kuraly – Kastelic

    McAvoy – H Lindholm – Zadorov – Peeke – Jokiharju – Lorhei

    Swayman – Korpi

  10. Wow, I agreed with you on all your points.
Minten is ready, Lysell is hoping injuries open a door for him.

  11. Thank you for the post. Appreciate the effort and the insight. To me Minten and Blumel have to start the season. DiPietro play is disappointing. We were all hoping for him to look great this year. I'm totally behind Lohrie. Fox and Bouchard are hardly defensive juggernauts, but bring that offensive threat that is so valuable. If they let him continue to take chances make mistakes and learn, as he gets stronger , and more confident , learns when to stay/go over the next couple seasons, I think you really got something.

  12. If you noticed, they had Poitras starting the overtime against the Rangers. A power play on OT. They moved the puck well. It was a long shift and took a timeout after the whistle. Then came right back with the same players. Poitras was there. I took that as a positive sign. They trust him and want him out there.

  13. Great move acquiring Minten and taking advantage of another Leafs team desperate to apeise the pressure to succeed now. Minten was NHL ready last year. Leafs were developing him well. Great attitude, team player and has the tools. Leafs fan here lol. Look after him please.

  14. Zadorov got a goal but this is Zadorov hes a statue he gets skated around an he just stands there an watches the offense .he only gets physical at end of games when its to late .wasnt happy when they signed him i hate you don Sweeney. Com .as for minten they need him in Boston if their shopping zacha an they are shopping zacha

  15. I’m not feeling it for Sturm’s intention to win those one goal games.

That would require a team with capable shutdown D and an elite goaltender pairing, and the Bruins just don’t have either of those things.

It just doesn’t hold water no matter how I look at it.

  16. Zadorov is terrible. He looked so slow but made up for it by being out of position on EVERY goal. Ugh

  17. How about an all Czech 🇨🇿 line of C- Zacha…RW- Pastrnak…LW- Blumel? 2nd Line: Mittelstadt-C…Eyssimont-RW…Geekie -LW
    3rd Line..Minten C…Jeannot-RW…Arvidsson…LW Khusnutdinov
    4tl Line…Kuraly-C…Steeves-RW….Kastelic-LW. …Spare Forward….Beecher

  18. Will be fighting for a bottom of the standings spot again you can't load a team with 3rd and 4th liners and think your gonna make the playoffs the league is too good for that now what was spent on jeannot which was a complete idiotic transaction could have went towards bringing in a forward that can actually score.

  19. Keep Lohrei. He is young and very skilled with the puck. He just started playing defense a couple years ago as he was always a forward. He can skate and sickle handle better than anyone else on the team. He makes mistakes on defense but will get better as he plays more defense.

  20. I don’t want to be too negative but the players that look good..don’t look great, just happens that the talent we need to develop simply is not there.. so the lower tier players are shining. I am likely wrong but maybe goalie Bob was lucky with rask and Thomas in the organization.. all goalies since are not fully developing into consistent starting goalies.. including Swayman. Kala’s and later Ullmark was definitely not a product of Bruins system. Swayman may be a lot better this year but I think we could watch this and see … maybe we could use a different approach to goalie development. I used to think we were swimming in goalie prospects but any time they needed to step up it hasn’t been fantastic to say the least. Maybe I am way off on this.

  21. Hi Court!
When your video’s duration gets up into the 20-30 minute range, it’s a really good call to include timestamps in the video’s description.

  22. Good work. Many of the Bruins key guys are older and injuries (how many and how often) very well might determine if they make a wildcard spot or not. If the season starts to go off the rails they may give some of the younger guys more playing time. I guess we will see how it goes. I agree with you that how Swayman plays is going to have a big impact on the season as well.

  23. I think they should try Beecher on Defence and see if he can be like a brent burns scenario. Beecher would be a good dman.

  24. Agree 100% on Poitras except I think he won't work out on the wing and will end up being hurt too much to get a foothold in the league.

  25. Lysell will be my biggest disappointment if he doesn't make the team. Potsie will eventually get there.

Man, we have been so spoiled for the last 15 years. Maybe it makes sense to finish near the bottom of the league this year. We have to rebuild, not re tool.

The only thing with that is Pasta suffers. SMH…

Agree about Lohrei. He will be important when the team fills out.

  26. Im hoping "Z" is just doing the typical veteran player's pre-season game….. just coasting for now, and will play when it counts. We will see.

  27. What is still with the high school like crush with people regarding Lysell. Get over it, there are other gals out there. Look, actually look, at his history…nada with Sweden under agers, 22 goals with Vancouver in the WHL, 16 year olds do that, nothing with Prov playing powerplay and first line minutes..and with the big boys, well, you know…let go.
