Andrew Copp impacts all situations as Detroit Red Wings dominate Buffalo Sabres

Andrew Copp and his new look matchup line looked as they should, like NHL vets playing a preseason game. This heavy forechecking line brought pressure all night long to the Sabres. Andrew Copp himself had an assist on a SH goal, an even-strength goal and set a nice screen on a PP goal. The rest of the team played well as well. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Axel Sandin-Pellikka, Nate Danielson, Carter Mazur, Emmitt Finnie, and Amadeus Lombardi all made their presences felt in this one while getting work with established vets like Dylan Larkin, Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond. #LGRW

  1. Hope Copp keeps playing well so that he has trade value. Dump that negative affect loiterer; never seen a player in any sport act like he is constipated when he scores

  2. Finnie skates like Kariya and wins pucks like a young Zetterberg. He should be 1st line LW hands down. Future all-star, you heard it here first.

  3. Postava is a potential steal; hats off to Yzerman. People here know I have been extremely negative on Cossa from the first time I have seen him. Too slow side to side and no quick twitch muscles. Imagine the opposite of Hasek.

  4. Pretty sure that low shot game you were referring to was against Brian's favorite team, the Islanders. 😅

  5. Only negative I have is the pk still needs work buffalo scored both goals on the pp which I thought buffalos pp was weak to begin with

  6. With these past two games: I'm not sure if this is an indictment of how good Detroit might be, or just how absolutely awful both Buffalo and Chicago are going to be this year…

  7. I had the good fortune of scoring a great ticket at a great price on Gametime so was able to focus on several guys.

I have a newfound admiration for MBN. Physical, forecheck, solid skater, high motor, wicked shot. He’s so close but will start in GR.

Bernard-Docker was more than I hoped for. Like Buium, not the fastest skater but good IQ. Always seemed to be in the right spot.

Lombardi is so smooth with the puck. Sees the ice really well and reacts correctly as the play develops. He’ll start in GR and needs to work on his defense.

Loved the Kasper, Danielson and Mazur line. Lots of chaos and speed. Had lots of opportunities and generated a great forecheck. Much as I liked that line, Rasmussen, Copp and Appleton was a great line. That line is set. Best I’ve seen Copp play. Really like Appleton’s game. Solid on the PK. Physical.

Finnie had a nice game and got robbed by a beautiful save. He’ll start in GR and that will be a heck of a 1st line for the Griffins.

Mo. What a difference in his physicality. He was a bully on the ice. Obviously Todd has told these guys to get physical. Mo, Rasmussen, Appleton, Kasper were throwing their weight around. Loved it.

Danielson should make the roster and quite possibly Mazur if they adda second rookie. Lots of youngsters are close but those two seemed to be ready.

One preseason game but the potential is high.

  8. Been a bust since they signed him.
So when it comes down to roster space he might very well block a good young player and keep them buried in GR

  9. Awood40 and haskey highlights have been putting replays of the preseason games up on their YouTube channels.

  10. Based on the
preseason (prospects game, red/white game, 2 preseason games) so far plus past performances, my forward lines for the regular season would be:

    1. Finnie – Larkin – Raymond
    2. DeBrincat – Kasper – Kane
    3. Lombardi – Danielson – MBN
    4. Appleton – Copp – Soderblom

    13th: JVR

Not listed: Either GR or traded

It won't happen as Ras, Compher, and Berger will likely have spots, but I think my lines give the Wings a better chance to win.

Trying to think of any obvious names that slipped mind before I hit send…..😅 Don't think so, but there probably is at least one. Lol
