As an Oilers fan myself. It looks ok but it could have been worse. I do like the patch that says Oil country. That looks cool.
As a caveat to set the table, I'm an Australian and only 18+ months into my NHL Journey.
I was interest in the Patch having 'EDM 1979' as appose to 1972. Whilst i understand that "the NHL did not and does not recognize the WHA's records or history as being any part of its own. It explicitly treated the arrival of the WHA teams not as a merger, but rather as an expansion consisting of four new franchises which happened to have identical or similar names to some of the former WHA teams".
I was of the Impression the Oilers organisation stuck to the belief that they were established in 1972. (Similar to the NFL's 49ers repping 1946 as appose to their entry into the NFL in 1950. or the NBA's Nets repping 1967 as appose to their entry into the NBA in 1976)
I like that the negative space in the "s" forms an oil drop, but I agree the shape of the "O" seems off.
Letters that look like Hitler.
It's a cool jersey, but in my opinion, it fails because it's a majority off-white. It looks like a heratige classic. Will it stand out enough when facing off against white away jerseys?
they need to bring back the cog or the two tone instead as an oilers fan but love the jersey
I feel like anyone who likes this jersey needs to raise their standards because this is not good
I went to the release and I bought it before I got out of my seat. I’m a young jersey collector with 57 jerseys and I’m a huge oilers fan. Would a white version of the Todd McFarlane jersey be better? Probably, But I’m glad they are trying something different and new, it’s the first new Oilers logo in 25 years. Also in the negative space on the “S” there is an oil drop hidden away.
I do like the jersey. Like you I wasn't a big fan of the logo. It has grown on me a little bit but still wish they had the traditional oilers logo on it. I'm still going to probably get it .
Hey Neil, Go over to Google and say Tulsa oilers baseball jersey and that's what the Edmonton oilers font kind of looks like
All script logo jerseys suck. I don't know why any team thinks this is a good idea. If that Oilers Jersey just had a logo on it. It would look great. I don't know what that is. It looks wake a low end fashion Jersey
I love this jersey. It’s fresh and new. It’s clean and the numbers look amazing. The only thing I don’t like is the “C” and “A” being on the striping. Logo isn’t amazing but I love the oil drop in the negative space of the “s”.
I honestly have quite a few problems with this sweater. The captains’ patches are clipping the shoulders, the logo is plain and clashes hard with the modern number kit, and teams need to stop doing the one-shoulder patches.
If they lowered the captain patches, put the shoulder patch on both shoulders, and used something like the oil rig worker logo, this jersey would be many times better.
As a collector, it’s a really good jersey. The issue I have is the whole point they are making with the jersey is the whole “made for oil country” slogan. I get no “oil country” vibes from the logo at all. Throw something with an oil derrick on the front and it would be a must have for my collection (yes I know it’s in the shoulder patch but should’ve been on the primary crest). If they don’t want to go and design a brand new logo just for this one jersey and never use it again, update the alternate logo that was used in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
Hi Neil,
Heres what I believe is going on with the difference in the color white and off white you mentioned in your video.
The Premium jersey is described as being cream in color while the Pro version of this jersey ( the ones the players wear) are White.
Its not a mistake.
I have an Edmonton oilers heritage classic jersey from 2023 made by Adidas at that time and the color is cream equivalent to the fanatics premium. That same heritage classic jersey the players wore was white ( pro version). So its the same with this new alternate jersey and therefore its not your imagination.
If you like the white version it'll cost you close to $500.00 Canadian which is what the players wear.
Hope this helps to clarify the difference!
As far as liking the jersey, i agree on your assessment and that is that i like everything about it except the logo.
I akso see the oil drop on The letter "O" as well as the letter "S"
They should have maybe concentrated on the shoulder patch being the Primary Logo and work with that instead.
Great segment!
In general, it’s a C+ jersey.
Graded against other wordmarks, it’s an A.
Are they going to be wearing white at home games? That's interesting, I know that can be frustrating from the away team if they're on a several game road trip and have to pack more than one jersey. I like it though, it's solid, not much more to say.
Same problem with the redwings pictures. The jersey and logo look off white/cream but their 100 patch on shoulder looks like it uses bright white instead of cream
I had the white issue with the Calgary Flames heritage classic release from a couple years back. The first photos looked off white but every other photo looked normal white. It wasn’t until I saw the in person jersey that I confirmed the whiteness.
I will say the lack of consistency in the color balance did initially make me NOT want to buy the jersey. I only wanted it if it was off-white
Oilers is a stupid name. They always make the fugliest jerseys.
Player is the best player.
As a Preds fan and budding jersey collector, this jersey is perfectly Eh. It is a jersey of all time. Good, no. Bad, no. It is just one of many Edmonton jerseys.
Hahaha the O reminds you of Hitler? That’s a funny take
Its like the jersey jersey… not a jersey that will stay for long..
Get erie otters feelings..
The Oilers have the perfect trifecta: Great colorway, solid history & regional identity, and phenomenal (top five, IMO) logo.
With those all of those in mind, I simply can't comprehend how they came up with this. If you have an unreal logo, feature it. If you have a strong regional and historical identity…use them. The colors in this are "ok," but I think they could have been used better too (although I agree that the numbers are solid).
Maybe this will look better in person, but from what I've seen this is a "C" to "C-."
Awful hahaha these jerseys are terrible
I will take this over the wrench anyday.
As an oilers fan I like the jersey and think it looked good, I do prefer the off white look more than the white look but I understand peoples complaints but I don’t think the logo is bad and the jersey looks clean.
