Shaun Starr and Marco D’Amico take a look at how THEY would round out the Montreal Canadiens 3rd line for the start of a new NHL season, October 8th in Toronto against the Maple Leafs. Habs fans, how would YOU build that line?
Also, what about Kirby Dach and the pressure on him to lock down that 2C role and how quickly do we think the Montreal Canadiens management will react in the worst case where Dach just can’t do the job?

No one hates you marco. Be yourself
How can they all be generational talents in the same gen. Connor Bedard, Celebrini, now Mkenna. Not to mention our boy demi …
Is it just me or are we a little too heavy in goal. We could move Dobes if KK is our backup, Fowler is probably fighting for NHL time Next year…..and will likely win even with this depth
“The Habs want “2-C” what they have in Dach”
Marco with the puns 😂
I’m pulling for Dach, he has the body, the hands, the vision, the skating, some snarl
Wishing the kid health, hoping he has prepared physically and mentally
Also that he focus on faceoffs, every center can always improve
Suzuki wants to get better and he’s already around 50%
I don’t see another option at 2C right now instead of Dach other than Veleno, I don’t think Newhook has the vision, or the hands to be a top 6 winger let alone be the center
He has the elite skating speed and a shot, he is great at getting the puck into ozone but like a dog chasing cars has no idea what to do once he gets in
Even at 3C rather see Evans or Beck or Veleno or Kapanen maybe Florian over Newhook and let Newhook be a checking winger and becoming a PK specialist
Love the kid, but all feet no hands isn’t top 6
One line I could see him doing ok on would be with Andy and Gally
17-11 would be perfect wingers for any young center joining team as they would be for Newhook as well
Speed, bang and crash line 17-15-11 would be a good checking line
Or
17-62-11
17-63-11
17-91-11
17-90-11
17-71-11 are all right shots and all of your best bottom 6 checking in one line …
which I’m sure can be used late in games to nurse a lead or match up against top opposition, but better to spread the checking around
Evans could center any 2 wingers be the responsible center
If Bolduc is used on line 2 and Laine drops down to 3rd
Evans would be the best option there with another winger that could throw body around or a Newhook that could hunt down pucks
Lots of options really but balance is the best course in my opinion
Ideally you would love 2 top 6 lines that push for offense and 2 bottom 6 lines that are an absolute bitch to play against, don’t give you any room or time and could score against the opposition’s bottom 6
I haven't noticed Bolduc at all so far. Slightly concerning….
Good Take on the team this morning boys!
Dach and newhook does not seem to bring anything special ever and both of them cannot win face offs..
i wanna see demidov-florian-bolduc
Still the dumbest audience in sport.
Said it before but it’s worth repeating- I love how grounded this channel is.
Much better audio today, thanks.
Bolduc, Beck and Florian will be the 3rd line by Christmas
It's not just McKenna this year but Dupont is going to be a legit Schaeffer maybe a tad less offensive ability but still a great pick to make.MTL should have been doing everything to stockpile first picks for several years but instead the TRY HARD management gave away first picks to get other teams cast offs.
Soooooo management has been very hit n miss some really good moves some really bad moves.
Well it was almost impossible to not have a better game in game 2 because the first game was awful.
As for all the prospects they are ALL AHL lifers .Florian is viable IF MSl rolls lines and doesn't just over play the top 6 but if the bottom 6 are just bench riders this team will struggle long term.
I would trade Reinbacher and ANY of them except Florian in a heart beat.I have use for a Florian the other guys look like they are out public skating.
you guys are the best ! along with Basu ans Godin ( and Hockey Junkie !), you're the only ones covering the Habs worth listening to
Marco, why would Sid not want to be in Montreal? He has no chance in Pittsburgh!
Boring contractual question.
Is there a limit (aside reasonableness lol) on how protected a traded pick can be? Like, the obvious example is top 10, we see it all the time, and along these ranges. what about top 25? I mean, if the other team is fine with it for some freaking unrealistic reason, can it be done? I cannot find anything in the rules against it, nor a general contractual doctrine that would either.
Stupid question but I'm curious; you can really make up so real funny (to an insane person like me at least) mock trades 😛
Hugues :
"Oh yeah yeah, here's our 2016 FRP for X Y center, but top 20 protected (so basically guaranteed to stay protected but shhhuush); and no worries Mr Dumba… I mean Dubas, if that protection is SOMEHOW triggered (:, we definitely plan to suck in 2027.
Why we'd plan to suck you ask?
Trust me bro that's why.
Now sign this thing"
Kirby Dach, if you're reading this, we are all rooting for you!
If Dach is the 2C there is still going to be a hole at 2C. Sorry I just have no faith in him. I want to but it's just not happening.
What if Fowler makes the team.Dobes could be a good trade chip,to team like Pittsburgh.
Florian Xhekaj is much closer to the NHL than the so-called experts claimed
For « expert commentators », Florian was automatically returning to Laval, and that’s not so certain now
Flo!
Laine on line two with Demidov is suicide. If that line doesn't have the puck, good luck.
In the case of Dach I see that Montreal will do something after game 5. The organization can't afford for Dach to get reinjured to limit his value on the trade market.
I feel Beck is a more complete player than Kapanen, he can do it all on the ice and also be physical something Kapanen is not too much, I see Beck as a 3rd line C before Kapanen.
To be perfectly honest, I'd rather not hear another whisper on Sidney Crosby unless it's confirmed by the Penguin's that he's moving somewhere away from Pittsburgh. Like Marco, I internally groan when Shaun mentions the topic. There's enough clickbait on the interweb as it is regarding Crosby and I assidiously avoid it. 😊😊😊❤❤❤😊😊😊
What I want to see is a line Roy, florian ,bolduc , and then I want to see gally , beck , Anderson, also I would like to see Roy , dach , bolduc play together also have Roy and bolduc play with demidov and dach ! If Roy could play with beard he can play with the habs top guys and bolduc is a skilled grinder , all they need is love guys and they will perform! I'm convinced off it !
Imo the Habs know Dach is not the long-term solution at center. They will prove his health and flip him to another team who can afford to take time with him.
Beck makes the most sense because of his intelligence, effort, flexibility, face-offs and penalty kill ability. The PK helped the Habs last season get into the playoffs.
If the Habs keep Matheson and Hutson can play the right side, Reinbacher becomes expendable for a good young 2C which is critical. Then Hage playing 3C like Lundell would be ideal.
Lastly, if the Ducks are really trying to get McTavish to sign 5×5.5 then he will be available. He can't sign that deal. Also are the Knights going to have to trade Karlsson right now to get under the cap with Pietrangelo not seeming to go on full LTIR? Good show again 👍
One game each and your drawing conclusion's on who play's and who goes to Laval. Roy did impress me, he showed that he has raised his floor. Velano ,Blais ,Florian and Rohrer looked good. Kapanen, Laine and Newhook did not ! Maybe a package with Newhook in it could pry Mctavish away from Anahiem. Then Dach could play wing.
Gotta try Joe he looked hungry last game.
Shaun, this is why preseason shakes out the contenders from the pretenders. Some guys need more time and others are out of time.
Can you synthesize both of your volumes
