  1. Like all sports the current generation is built from the last, so each era has its own mount Rushmore I think. With that said, Howe’s playing career spanned 4 decades, even including WHA-NHL merger.

  2. I like the eras argument . Crosby definitely would have broken 2000 points without the concussions.
Then the argument would be on .
Lemieux is the best ever . Gretzky the point king and obviously point king.
Orr i dont see how you move past him. A defenseman that talented .
Crosby is better than Howe .

  3. Sidney Crosby has 4 goals in 25 career Finals games. 3 at 5v5.

All the clutch stats, big series, big game stats, esp potential clinchers and at 5v5 goal scoring, Patrick Kane not only destroys Crosby, he literally destroys Crosby and Malkin combined. So no, that dude isn't on any Mt Rushmore.

  4. Sidney Crosby 'won' his first Cup by having 0/0/0 -3 in the last 3 games. He 'won' his 2nd Cup (and 1st Smythe) by having 3/8/11 -4 in 19 games over the last 3 rounds, including no goals in the Finals.

  5. For me, I always have to pick Sergei Fedorov. Phenomenal at the C and LW, and could play as a defender if needed (good enough that either Scotty Bowman or Nick Lidstrom said he would’ve won a Norris had he been there a whole season). Might not wow anyone with the points, but he was a great two-way player that could take over games in multiple ways.

  6. Jonathan Toews doesn't have the personal stats of these players, but has been a champion at every level. Which other than Sid those players are not even close to Toews in that category.

  7. Ooo that's a hot take. So many variable go into it. Mack has played on an absolute juggernaut of a team the last 4-5 years. Oilers only made it that far the last two years because of TWO players. And they are the best two in the world. Add Kuch in there, and where does Mack really fall into? I'd put him at #3. McDavid, Kucherov, Mack, Drai. Kuch has a much higher PPG. But, he also played on Tampa. See? That's why what the Oilers are doing is incredible. It's ONLY them two.

  8. To me the question is whether there is a cluster of players who’s Dominance, at their peak, sets the cluster apart from all other players in the history of the game. The answer is Yes, and there are only three of them: Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux. In no particular order… For each, it was like they were playing against kids. To be sure, Gordie, Crosby, McDavid, Ovi are all Legends. The top three were Demi-Gods on Ice.

  9. It is not fair nor realistic to compare players from different era’s.

For instance, both Bobby and Gordie had to defend themselves whereas Wayne and Mario never had to.

Sure they might’ve scrummed a few times but they never had to one on one against anyone.

Now Sidney and Alex have both dropped the gloves yet I’ve never seen McDavid do that and I’m not sure about MacKinnon….
