OK Guys, it’s time to take a look at the game last night between the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins.. This was the Habs very first game of the pre-season, and in my opinion the biggest standout from last night’s game was the play of young goaltender Jacob Fowler… Lets break this one down!

The one player who was supposed to shine last night didn't at all in my opinion.
Even though they're bottom D, Clurman and Del Gaizo did a pretty good job I think!
Also Kapanen and Beck proved their value a lot last night.
And I feel like Demidov's success is dependant on his teammates being able to catch his awesome skilled passes. Would of been a sick goal from Gallagher he was able to connect!
Happy to see Andy standing up for Demidov. Fowler is so chill, it's scary. Beck played a solid game, the Dad line was solid. Whoohoo a double hit of Xhekajs tonight.
92 is going to have a AMAZING YEAR LETS GO!!
Often times people freak out when teams that have multiple nhl’ers lose to basically ahl teams in the pre season but it actually makes total sense if you think about it. On one side you got a bunch of players who are just trying to shake off the rust, get their feet under them and not get hurt and on the other side you got a bunch of players where this could very well be the highest level they ever play. I never get too invested in the pre season.
2:23 what's in the hand?
Disastrous officiating picking up where it left off. 1:04 is boarding, but 1:36 is not? TF?
Besides the shoot out Kapanen wasn't look great.
Owen Beck was also great. And he was 70% in faceoffs, which is something the team needs because Newhook and Dach are not that great on that front.
It’s cool to glaze Fowler but Montembeault kept them in that game.
Been a fan of Fowler throughout his Boston college years. His confidence at this early stage of is NHL career is astounding.
Montreal is lucky to have him, he will be a star.
Honestly, when is Jeremy Sweden gets his groove back in Boston, they actually remind me of each other in many ways.
People liked Laines game but honestly I wasnt super impressed. He had a few good moments, but he threw away possession at least 3 times through his laziness or poor decision-making. Hes got potential, but he needs to work on that (unless he lets Demidov do all the thinking this year).
Does Fowler have pet 🦅?
Davidson gets two for boarding. Pittsburgh laid out that same hit twice and no penalties.
Mesar Villain arc
Fowler could be Price 2.0 — imagine that. Just think what Carey might have achieved with the kind of team this one promises to be. Maybe we’ll get to see it play out with Fowler in net. The timing feels just about right.
Yes he's the best goalie we have.
Laine still with a slow skate but definitely a change in attitude to start the season. I loved it, keep it up Patty we're rooting for you my guy.
How's everybody liking the female commentator?
THURD PHEERYUD
Gotta say the Habs looked like the haven’t had any practices.
There is a definite tendency it seems to have more and more “targeted” hits in these pre-season games, specifically toward talented players, as if the other teams are sending their “never going to make the NHL” players out there to try injure other teams prospects or skilled players.
Last season, Patrick Laine and Reinbacher both got injured from those types of players in the same pre-season game against the Leafs.
Last night, I thought there were a couple of debatable hits attempted on Demidov, specially the egregious one with the player jumping to hit him in the head.
Its getting a bit intense for games that mean absolutely nothing. And if this continues, most teams will not dress any talent at all, and just let the goons run wild. And This will be the end of pre-season games.
First two periods were tight. The turd period the Habs started to get their "S" together. Jacob Fowler was impressive. Owen Beck rebounded from his last game. Mesar played well. Tonight we'll see our first line. Slaf needs to step up. Thanks for another great game summary.
i thought matheson looked great. played with a lot more confidence and made very little mistakes, even joining the rush and making some good passes. i think well see a lot more respect from the fans for him this season.
Goddamn I love that intro😂😂😂
I am loving Fowler, Ive been watching him for a while now, and he just keeps impressing. Looking forward to seeing the Xhekaj brothers tonight. I wish we could get Lane Hutson's little brother too!
Seeing Laine able to skate was pretty fun to see
Yesterday was a goalie duel, all goalies played well, on both side.
TBH, Laine is way too slow for Demidov… have a feeling it's not gonna work in the end and Laine's gonna be downgraded to the 3rd with some bonus shifts on PP.
Pens fan here. One, gratz. Lineups were a little lopsided, but, hey, it's preseason. Two, I REALLY hope FX and AX knock the snot out of any Flyer who gets "rambunctious". Because FTF. Three, Am I the only one who, at least in preseason, would rather see 5 on 5 OT until a goal is scored? Or at the very least 3 on 3 until the same. Cannot stand the shootout.
i was hoping for much more out of laine although he looked good on defence
So pumped having hockey to watch again… lol
MSL isn't a coach.
No one remembers last year when he had no answers?
It's an insult to career coaches in the minors with winning records who can't break through.
Nahhhh.
Give it to a guy who's never Coached men in his life.
the turd period
I saw the line up and thought uh-oh. Agree, Laine played well without the puck but that line needs a bit of grit at center, I would of put Beck there.
Well, Florian is doing good so far !
