Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chair Tom Galvin has more than a shred of Arizona hockey knowledge. Almost nine months ago, Galvin, a longtime Coyotes fan, lit a candle of hope in front of the state’s downtrodden hockey community. On the day he was sworn in as Board of Supervisors Chair, Galvin announced his intent to form an advisory committee of political, business, community and sports leaders dedicated to bringing the NHL back to the Phoenix metro area after the Coyotes relocated to Salt Lake City in 2024.
On Monday, Galvin will fan that flame by officially naming Andrea Doan as chair of that committee.
“Andrea Doan is a longstanding supporter of Arizona hockey, and is married to Shane Doan, who was instrumental in building Arizona’s hockey legacy,” Galvin said. “She is as much a part of the Arizona hockey story over the last 20-plus years as Shane. Andrea has dedicated much of her personal life to our community and building support for Arizona hockey. Andrea’s knowledge of the industry, and her connections to Arizona and the NHL are instrumental to our mission.”

Hopefully its one western and one Eastern team this expansion or it'll be all four cities getting a team at the same time
Hoping if we do get them back we can rename. Never liked the coyotes name and logo. It looks soft.
Phoenix/Arizona wouldn't be seriously considered until a new rink is built and stable ownership established. This market along with Atlanta was an embarrassment for the NHL for decades. Atlanta sounds like they're much closer but its all just talk and smoke right now.
I find it funny, the Jets became the Coyotes and the Coyotes became the Mammoth, and Thrashers became the Jets , and we might see the Coyotes, Thrashers, Jets, and Mammoth all play at the same time
The Howl Pack returning
🏒 Hopeful that Arizona can return to the NHL….
The huge question is, can they overcome the 20+ year hurdle of getting a new arena in a good location? If they can overcome this barrier, I say welcome back Arizona Coyotes!!
Denial is a real thing.
It was sad watching the final minutes of the Coyote's last game. Hate seeing teams move. Hope they can find a way to get this done.
So let me get this straight that Doans wife isn’t a conflict of interest. Thats funny. Shes married to a man that works for another team & market…brilliant..Just sounds like a nothing burger that possibly collects a check for name recognition? Is she “qualified” besides having a phone bank of connection to other players? I don’t get it…seems poorly planned.
They couldn’t come up with anyone else?
The only way nhl is coming back is if this state, county, and or city manages to bypass a vote like they did for the original bank one ballpark. The amount just for the franchise fee is a big hurdle then to build a new stadium where said ownership group isnt paying for the majority but the taxpayer is vital, right?. City, county, & states don’t make the money back for what is typically developed, again, right? Then, to have them wanting to leaving within 15/20 because the building is “falling apart”?
Ok.
Great business model
The valley should be the first to offer shares to citizens & ownership to all
Maybe like a Green Bay or Celtics type of thing but more of an actual citizen ownership and low level jobs provided are with benefits…
That’ll be the day 😂
This happened to me in high school my senior year we lost the Raiders and the Rams in Los Angeles. I was no longer an NFL football team. I had no football for until I moved to Indianapolis 20 years ago and I started rooting for the Colts. It was nice to root for a NFL football team again.
"Don't give me hope"
Arizona will have zero pro hockey teams in a year. It's sad.
I live in the valley & I'll believe it when I see it ! There's a lot pain & bad blood left over from the last owner ! We need ownership committed to Hockey & Not some Shiester hell bent on creating a entertainment district with dining & shopping without having the arena deal in place !
Keep the Coyotes dead
Arizona doesn't deserve a team
With Andrea and hopefully with Doaner joining the committee, I feel like this is very strong step on getting the Coyotes back in the valley. Like Brodie says, the situation was never great. Think about that really hard before hating on us.
All noise until they build an NHL level arena in the Tempe, Scottsdale, Phoenix area AND there is good deep pocketed ownership! The Coyotes never had both!
Bring back the Whalers and Quebec
phoenix has a basketball ball team I never understood why they didn’t play there
While I want Hockey to grow and expand, I cannot support sites like Arizona or Atlanta getting teams. Back when the Oilers went through their woes, Bettman clearly stated multiple times that there would never be another franchise in Edmonton. So no, great look brother
Phoenix has never had the combination of a good team, good arena, and good ownership. It can be a successful market.
Smart and realistic approach. I believe Bettman does want to see the NHL in Phoenix again (just like Atlanta), but Atlanta is almost a slam dunk in being granted an NHL expansion franchise within the next year or two (Krause group). Houston also has an interested ownership group (led by Dan Friedkin) that IMO make them the favorite to land the 34th franchise. I think the NHL will eventually get to 40 teams, so lots of time to put together an complete and attractive package.
From Tucson, but I've always been a fan of the Ducks. Just sucks I can't drive to Phoenix anymore to see the Ducks play locally.
