Habs DO Have a Theme This Season, Early Impressions of Training Camp, Slafkovsky Exit Interview

The Montreal Canadiens have a theme or message for the 2025-2026 season and I reveal it here. Early impressions of Habs training camp so far, and talking about Juraj Slafkovsky’s exit interview with Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes in the final episode of The Rebuild series on Crave.

  1. I'd rather they give a shot to Roy instead of Beck (or Kapanen) on the Newhook line. He's a year older and time is running out to figure out if he is a keeper or not. Beck can use another year in Laval,. Roy was always slated to be a 3rd line winger anyway. Give him a shot or trade him (for peanuts unfortunately).

  2. Starting lineup, who knows how long that last.

    Caufield Suzuki Slaf
    Laine Dach Demigod
    Bolduc Newhook Roy
    Gally Evans Anderson

    13th forward Veleno
    Blais to Laval

  3. I get the the first line was hit all year and the coach won’t want to slow down Slav’s development. However, I’d be willing to change things up this year. Demidov Suzy Anderson with Dobson Matheson on D.

Slav Newhook Caufield and Ghule Hudson on D

Laine Xjekai Bolduc on the third line with Xjekai and Cardier on D

    Gallagher Evans Kapanen

  4. Definitely interesting to see the initial MSL lines and D pairings. Training camp has just started with I think 6 preseason games on tap so changes could still happen. My initial thoughts, not surprising w/the forward group altho IMO, as much as I truly hope Dach can have himself a good season, I’m not sure if he’s the right Center for Demidov. I personally like Dach w/Laine, but I think I would prefer Newhook&Bolduc w/Demidov as I feel you need the Center speed and better defensive awareness in Newhook. I am a little surprised Dobson was paired w/Matheson but not shocked. It just shows how much MSL&coaching staff like Matheson (will he extend in Mtl or are they showcasing him 🤔). I do hope MSL gives Veleno a proper chance to make the team but it’s also up to Joe to show brass he can help this team. We can’t forget the experience and grit/toughness Blais can offer to this team, or allowing one of the young guys, Beck, Kapanen a proper shot. I believe F Xhekaj will be sent down…why keep him to prob play 4th line minutes, when he could play big minutes, PP, PK, key moment minutes in Laval. I think there is only 1 spot available at forward, with Xhekaj battling w/Struble for 6-7th Dman. I think Reinbacher is very close (so impressed w/his calm demeanor) but I can understand giving him more time in Laval. Still many things can happen…injuries (knock on wood), sudden trade, a good player stands out so big decisions need to be made?…we shall see but just excited Habs hockey is back! As for season motto…I think with this team it’s “No ‘I’ in team…this team definitely has some potential superstars but if they don’t play as a 23man roster, playing for one another, holding each other accountable, supporting each other when things are not going so well…they won’t get far. The preseason games will tell us a lot. Go Habs Go!

  5. My biggest problem is that I hope that EVERYONE to make the team… Xhekaj (the 2 bros), Beck, Kappanen, Roy, Veleno, Blais, Struble… Whoever got the job, I will be equally happy for the guy and sad for the others😅 Hope Laine and Dach stay healthy, got their confidence back and have a great year. I wish you a great season my fellow habs fan❤

  6. As much as I would love to see Florian make the team, he is better off going to Laval.

10ish mins a game in Montreal? Or 20mins+ playing probably 2nd C minutes, getting PP and PK time, would be far better
