Kirill Kaprizov Must Really Not Like the Wild

Kirill Kaprizov reportedly turned down the most lucrative deal in NHL history. Was this the right decision by him and his agent? Is it the right decision to offer him this money?

  1. Who wouldn't want out of Minny? For years the team have been pretenders, and they play such a boring style of hockey.

  2. Kucherov has never been paid a best player in the NHL cap hit. Minnesota is not as nice a place to live for a millionaire as FLA. That’s something competitive teams in TBL and the panthers will always have to suppress wages.

  3. the cap is going up, hes definitely looking to get PAID, why lock in for 16M /year, when he could get $18-20M/ year in free agency at years end.
also with the cap going up why lock in for 8yrs , better to renew every 2-3years

  4. Kaprizov is a moron. Even if he gets paid, that contract will be the very reason his current team cannot win as cup or even compete with the better built teams. Kaprizov is now cancer.

  5. NHL organizations like the Knights treat players like fungible parts that can be swapped out at any point in time. Any surprise that a player from 8000M away with very limited reasons to have loyalty would do the same? His organization made him carry his team for the last 4 years with only 80% of the cap of the other teams.

  6. I always root for the player who does this. I remember Zadina making the same bet and that did not turn out great.

  7. I think it's a misconception that the Rangers paying Panarin as much as they did inhibited their success. Really, they could have (and did) build a good team around him. Rather, paying Patrick Nemeth $2.5m, Barclay Goodrow at $3.61m, Jacob Trouba at $8m, Ryan Reaves at $1.75m, and Blais at $1.5m ($17 mil in ineffective NHL players) hampered their success; hell, you could throw the Buchnevich trade in there as THE key reason why they didn't succeed, and it's not bc they couldn't afford him. He makes 5.8m which, under good cap management, easily could have fit into the Rangers' system. Panarin's contract wasn't the reason for their lack of championship. Pay your star players.

  8. 16m is a huge number, too much really. The structure matters a lot, too. What if it's backloaded going from 13 to 19 with no signing bonus and 5 team No Trade?

  9. Maybe he wants to win, thinks MIN is not the place, plays hardball while searching for another team to join. Wild are not looking as a winner now even Leafs are better ;))

  10. Goes back to Rossi had 60 points and ended up on the 4th line. And he wanted 7mil but the knife in his back taking 5😡😡😡😡

  11. He wants less term, he will be looking to get a new contract when he turns 30 or so. Then his next contract will be his last.

It is not the money. He likely wants a 3 or 4 year contract this time, so he can set himself up with a solid last contract

  12. Maybe he wants assurances Minnesota is going the right way before hesigns. Maybe money is not the only factor in his decisions.

  13. No elite player wants an 8 yr deal because the average contract for that caliber of player rises significantly with cap increases. A lot of influencers and other media are still using frozen cap logic and smearing Kaprisov because of it

  14. I'm guessing his agent is telling him to accept a 4-year deal so that he can get another big contract when the cap is even higher. 4 years at $16M, then another 4-6 years at $20M. McDavid will likely do the same. Kirill convinced Tarasenko to waive his NTC to come to MN, so I don't think he hates MN. Why would he tell Tarasenko to come to MN if he didn't like playing for the Wild?

  15. Imagine you are a rich Russian athlete, would you wanna be in Minnesota? No one wants to be there, especially not with family lives on the line!!
